Many Times I've serviced AC and found that if the simplest task of cleaning the dust filter under the service lid above the fan...if that gets like just moderately dusty that AC doesn't get as cold as it should when nice n clean. Subsequently, folk start ro turn AC temp lower put of desperation. (Although, some are just cold freaks that like to use power for the sake of it) . A once a month check and clean is usually adequate. 26 Celsius is my preffered temp.
In hot weather leaving AC on 24/7 is OK too as the floor and walls if concrete or brick retains the cool and the AC shuts down as it reaches 26 for example. IF it is turned off an ON as gusts go in and out the AC must constantly work to get to desired temp making the compressor work harder and longer and therefore more $$.
If an AC is turned on and off often enough with a 2 minute gap inbetween ,dame or complete compressor overloading could occur. At the end of the day gusts ate paying and entitled to leave the cooling on... heating on the other hand...well, not required generally here in Darwin NT.
I notice my power is roughly the same leaving AC on. After all that what they are designed for. Just make sure the wi does ate closed . Don't run ACs with windows open.
