Hi Karen,
Some Host are starting to charge guest for charging electric cars. I recommend being clear and transparent about your EV charging policy.
If you choose to charge a fee for EV charging, specify the amount and include it in your listing description. Alternatively, if you provide it as a free amenity, emphasize it as a perk to attract eco-conscious guests. Ensure that your approach aligns with your goals for guest experience and property positioning, while also covering any associated costs.
A fair range is typically between $10 to $25 per night, depending on factors like local electricity rates, the type of charger you offer (Level 1 vs. Level 2), and how much electricity an average EV consumes during a stay.
You can also calculate a more precise fee based on:
- The cost per kilowatt-hour (kWh) in your area.
- The average consumption per charging session (typically 20-40 kWh per charge).
- Any additional expenses, such as maintenance or installation of the charger.
For example, if electricity costs $0.15 per kWh and a guest uses 30 kWh, your cost would be $4.50. You might add a small markup for convenience, bringing the fee to $10-$15.
I hope this helps.
All the best,
Upfish Management
