Beds: double or two singles?

Hi all. In a one-bedoom space, which is better - one double bed or two singles? Do you think most guests are couples who would prefer to be in one bed? In your experience, how rare is the booking for two friends who prefer two singles? We have two singles but are considering swapping to a double.

Thanks for your help.

Dan

The best answer would need to consider If you are renting out a one-bedroom inside a home, or an entire one bedroom apartment? Do you have other rooms in the home you are renting so a family with children can rent?

If you wanted to rent to a couple, then queen would be preferred over double and over singles. Yes, older couples may prefer two singles. Two friends (or children) would prefer singles over a double. A couple would prefer a double. You can try with what you have for a few months and see how the bookings. If you are happy with your booking, then you can save yourself some money.

Hi Dan

If you have the storage and space, the superking zip up two single works well.  It requires you to have linen for one super king and two single plus duvet.   Being able to give the guest the choice increase the number of people who would consider your property.

Hopefully this is helpful?

Best wishes

Hi Dan - in my experience- if you have just one room then it has to be a single bed- probabilistic approach. If you have more than one room then definitely bring in the two singles- variety enhances “value”. Happy hosting.

Hello @Dan11927, you have brought a great topic to our community 😊

There are different perspectives here; have you had the chance to read our Hosts' comments? Have you made a decision on whether to use a double or two single beds?

Please keep us posted 🙏

We have a double bed and a sofa bed in the lounge area. Do you have space for a sofa bed? We have mainly couples who are enjoying the double bed. We have an upcoming booking of two friends and they asked to use the sofa bed too. So I guess to sleep seperate and have their own space. Those are 2 Ladies.

Hi Dan, Not long term on Airbnb myself but feel you need to decide who you feel your style of hosting will suit best and gear the property to those guests. For example we have a small coastal home so have set it up for smaller families or romantic getaways. Our house is nicely renovated with high end bathrooms, finishes and furnishings so we don’t want groups of party people. We put a max. of 6 guests on our three bedroom home, beds are 1xKing, 1xQ, 1xD (which we feel fits children or a couple). Our thinking is larger groups will tend to do more drinking (right or wrong we’re not sure, suspect the  potential for damage appears higher in that case)…mind you, we’re shocked at how some parents allow children to throw shower gel up walls and put finger prints over every glass and some not glass surfaces throughout the house 🤷‍♀️making cleaner take so much longer. Hope this helps you 😊
