Do you allow smoking or vaping at your property?

The question of smoking or vaping in a rental is a sensitive topic for many hosts.

On one hand, allowing it might make your place more appealing to certain guests. It shows flexibility and consideration for their preferences, which can lead to a better experience.

On the other hand, smoke can leave lingering odors, damage furniture, and mean extra cleaning—adding costs and potentially affecting future bookings. Plus, it’s important to think about guests who might have allergies or respiratory issues.

What’s your take—do you allow smoking or vaping in your rental?

No smoking, vaping or dipping tobacco allowed inside the property, $500 fine.    This should be common sense issue for anyone staying in someone else's home or property.   Plus several guests have allergies to being in a location where someone smoked.   We allow smoking and vaping outside.   We have a covered area in case of bad weather.

Hi everyone. I just saw this post. I’ve always had the no smoking rule. That is the checkbox. It’s non descriptive so I had to add in the rules No Smoking Anywhere not inside or outside on our decks or driveway. I put up signs and stickers. People still smoked and too many butts on the ground, so I had to write more details explaining that the toxins go into the house very easily and that the toxic waste ends up in the ocean (we are are a beach house). So now I still get vapers. I had to add on the rules you cannot invite smokers. It’s crazy. Sorry but Grandparents died from smoking cigarettes, Mom COPD, Dad had throat cancer and now drinks his food through a stomach tube. We need to crack down and stop enabling. Smokers think “I’m outside of this non smoking house it’s fine”. It’s not. I still get butts in my yard from my next door neighbors guests flicking them or the wind. Neighbor says “no smoking”, so they just go outside near my home. Smoke sneaks through my house even if all windows are closed. And what if I’m there wanting to enjoy my deck? Nope, I got the upwind of the smoker outside. I wish I could make their only option be to smoke in a 3x3 “smokers portapotty” keep those toxins on their own skin and lungs not others. Wake up smokers you’re just helping billionaires kill you.
