Do you change between quilts and comforters with the seasons?

I would like to open this new post with a quote from Henry Beston, a writer and naturalist: 

“The leaves fall, the wind blows, and the farm country slowly changes from summer cotton into its winter woods.”

Since we’re talking about new seasons and changes, have you ever thought about switching between quilts and comforters as the seasons change?

I think it’s a simple way to enhance comfort and create a cozy atmosphere. 

• Lightweight quilts are fantastic for warmer months, keeping things breezy while adding a bit of charm to your space. 

• When the temperatures drop, a plush comforter makes all the difference, wrapping your guests in warmth. 

I am wondering if you switch your bedding with the seasons or if you prefer to stick with one option year-round. Have you ever had guests who shared feedback about comforters and bedding?

@Elisa We use two different types of duvets for our bedding. A lighter one for the warmer months, and a warmer one for the colder months. 

We source our duvet from Ikea.

@Elisa I always change between cotton blankets with a lighter coverlet to thermal blanket and heavier coverlet depending on the season

@Elisa We never changed the duvets by season. Not least because there are maybe only a couple of weeks where it gets really hot in the UK and they occur randomly between May and October.

Change blankets and comforters, but the large quilts are costly to get cleaned and they need to be in a commercial washer and dryer.   Searching for a heating blanket encasement similar to what we currently use on the mattresses.   A removable encasement would allow for quick turnarounds.   Anyone have a suggestion on where we might find one.  Thanks.

There are really no encasements that I found.   Two schools of thought; heating blanket vs heating mattress pad.    The encasement would be for a heated blanket that goes on top above the top bed sheet.   The other thought is to go with a heated mattress pad.   No Host would want to have to try to wash a heated blanket or mattress pad at each turnaround.   The manufactures state that both are okay to wash,..but honestly anything with electric filaments in it,...it's like repeatedly bending a wire hanger,..what eventually happens?   

So reading on the safety of utilizing a heated mattress pad with the normal waterproof mattress cover (bamboo).    Half of the online reviews say go ahead, no problem with layering the two, however, some other comments state that having an electric pad under the waterproofed cover may create an issue should something go wrong with the electrified pad.   Hard to disagree.   Easy to see both sides.    Need to look at it further.

Personally, I used bamboo once, and it worked really well. I’m not sure about its long-term quality, but you should give it a try.

I wouldn’t put electricity near my bed, too risky.

We may try the heated pad someday, for now, we are looking at the direct 8-10 hours of heat contact on the memory foam topper.   Memory foam breaks down very easily from prolonged exposure to heat.   The addition of a heated pad may require the additional topper cover over the memory foam, therefore adding more expense.   Same issue with the waterproof bamboo mattress topper that would be just above the heated pad.   The heated pad would be in direct contact with the waterproofed backing of the mattress topper, so the prolonged heat may also be an issue.   We will need additional information from the manufactures of the mattress topper.   Anything we decide is exponentially more cost effective than repeated commercial washing the large thick quilts.

I personally do change between seasons. Spring and summer i offer a coverlet with an addition heavier blanket. In fall winter I cover bedding in an all weather, fluffy duvet.

Thanks for the kind words @Elisa. I use a natural duvet. I personally prefer natural so it’s what I want to offer our guest. Only the best! 💪🏾
