Hello everyone! 😊
I would like to open this new post with a quote from Henry Beston, a writer and naturalist:
“The leaves fall, the wind blows, and the farm country slowly changes from summer cotton into its winter woods.”
Since we’re talking about new seasons and changes, have you ever thought about switching between quilts and comforters as the seasons change?
I think it’s a simple way to enhance comfort and create a cozy atmosphere.
I am wondering if you switch your bedding with the seasons or if you prefer to stick with one option year-round. Have you ever had guests who shared feedback about comforters and bedding?
I look forward to reading your thoughts!
Warm regards 🌻,

Very natural and So Beauty
Hi @Mohamed1241 😊,
Could you provide more context? Are you referring to the duvet?

Hi @Elisa , we do not switch between quilts and comforters as we don't use either. Reason is that we wash ALL bedding, including the sheets, coverlets and pillowcases (Which are double covered with pillow protectors).
Hotels and I suspect most STRs that use quilts only wash the covers which of course could mean contamination from one guest to the next.
We only use 100% cotton sheets and 100% cotton coverlets as synthetics don't breathe well and are often a source of irritation to guests with sensitive skins.
Our overriding motto is we wouldn't ask a guest to stay where we wouldn't and personally we don't ever sleep in synthetic materials.
As regards warmth, we provide extra blankets and our home has central heating so guests can set the temperature to what they need.
Hi @Nicholas439 😊,
Thank you very much for sharing your approach here!
Your guests must feel so lucky to stay with you. Cotton is a great choice!
Were you using another material for sheets and coverlets before?

No, never. We use 800 to 1000 count sheets and heavy cotton coverlets because that's what we use. Also use double sided hotel flippable mattresses, cover the mattress in a mattress protector, cover sheet and then the cotton sheets and coverlet. We wash all these between guests utilizing a commercial laundry using unscented detergent and low heat drying. It's not cheap but provides guests with a quality sleep experience which is reflected in our reviews. We decided to go this route as we discovered that even good hotels that use comforters, only wash the cover, not the down. Most people are incredulous that this is the case - but I invite them to ask the next hotel they stay at and be prepared to be surprised.
Our Airbnb is located about 300 miles from the equator, so the seasons really don't change much. It's always warm to hot, and guests don't really need more than a light blanket. Of course, we launder them between guests and replace them as needed, but we never need to change them out for the season.
Hi @Kenchy0 😊,
I love warm weather!
That's great that you can satisfy your guests with a light blanket.
Do they use AC during their stay?
Warm regards🌻,

Yes, guests use the AC sometimes, but it's usually not necessary. Our apartment is in the Ponta Negra neighborhood of Natal Brazil, about 500 feet from the ocean in a highrise building. So there's often a coastal breeze. Temperatures are about 85 degrees on an average day and with the large sliding glass door on one side and windows on both sides of the apartment, we have great cross ventilation. We're also high up on the 24th floor so we're mostly above the heat from the street. Some guests like to run the AC anyway which they're welcome to do, but we encourage them to be mindful of the environment and turn it off when they are not in the apartment. We also have separate AC units in the general living area and bedroom so they don't need to run both. The AC units are only about a year old and cool each area efficiently within minutes.
Hi Elisa,
A very light sheet for june, july, august, i add a light cotton blanket in autumn and spring, and the heavy duvet for the 3-4 winter months. I put a spare blanket in the cupboard at all times, in case someone needs a heavier cover.
Hi @Naj261 😊,
Thank you for explaining this to other Hosts here!
It's marvelous that your guests will always find extra covers if they need them.
Why did you choose cotton material instead of synthetic?
Warm regards🌻,
-----
I dont like synthetic, so I try to go for natural material as much as I can, when available. I furbish my property as I am goi g to live in it myself, and the way I like the airbnb I stay in , to be, when I travel.
We keep both options on the bed.
Since we are on the Atlantic coast, even in summer, it can get cool where you may want something more than a coverlet, so we fold down duvets on the foot of the bed that you can pull up or take off the bed and place in the closet if it's too much.
It's also a design decision for the beds. We try to have a particular luxury look, so layering on the beds gives us that comforting luxurious feeling.
hope that helps!
Hi @Paulo1349 😊,
Thank you so much for sharing your approach with other hosts.
I’m sure it will be useful!
Do your guests notice this luxury detail? Have they mentioned anything about it?

I change quilts twice a year: in the spring and in the fall. In the spring, I put thin quilts that are comfortable at higher temperatures, and in the fall I replace them with warm, thick quilts. Also, in winter I always leave extra blankets in the closet, so that they are available to guests if they need them. Bed linen made of the finest cotton is a must. ✨️
Hi @Nataša33 😊,
Thank you for explaining this here.
You're very organized, that's amazing!
Why did you decide to use a quilt instead of a duvet?
