Do you offer food and drink to your guests?

Do you offer food and drink to your guests_.jpg

Hello hosts 👋

I’m really excited to hear about the lovely things you do to make your guests feel right at home. So, I’m super curious, do you offer any delicious food and drink to your guests?

Whether it's a charming welcome basket filled with local treats, a delightful breakfast spread, or a thoughtfully curated selection of beverages, your special touches can make such a difference in their experience. I once stayed in a yurt in Derbyshire that was on a farm, and we were provided with a a very tasty bottled cows milk to go with my morning coffee. Delicious!

Please share your creative ideas, heartwarming stories, or any unique offerings you provide below! I can’t wait to hear all about it!

I hope I treat guests as friends - in the original ethos of airbnb -  so they usually get tea & cake when they arrive, free access to tea/coffee after that and theres usually some homemade amaretto biscuits in their bedr oom.  They can cook in the kitchen or eat wih me if I'm cooking - all vegan and largely fresh from the garden and breakfast is again as homemade as possble with my own breads and jams and compotes to go with their cereals...  I also sometimes have vegan pasties available for their lunches (we don't live within easy walking distance of any shops so it would be pretty mean not to provide decent sustenance to my guests who are largely long distance walkers)

This sounds so lovely @Betty21 😋

I bet your guests really appreciate the thought and effort that you put into this. Have you got some pictures you could share with us?

No! - no camera at moment and no 'smart'phone...  try to avoid unneessary digital consumerism

That's okay, I admire that @Betty21!

It's wonderful to hear about your home too. Would you class your listing as an eco-friendly or environmentally conscious?

Hi Rebecca

I bake a cake or flapjacks for guests, it's become part of my routine.  Usually it's all gone by the end of their stay, or they take it out on a walk.  When taking a booking I always ask if there are any allergies or dietary requirements I should be aware of, so will adjust any cake making accordingly.  By law I'm unable to leave a bottle of wine, but we are blessed in Perthshire with amazing drinking water.

Through Airbnb I let out two double rooms, supplying a hearty cooked breakfast, we are not self catering.

Oh how lovely @Carolyn713! I was going to ask about allergies so it's great to hear that you ask them about this before they arrive.

Do you think that adding a breakfast attracts more guests to your listings? I suppose it's like a traditional bed and breakfast 😊

Hi all,

I have a bare bones Airbnb, meaning it is a single room in my home and use of the kitchen is permitted but limited (use of fridge and microwave).  I make this very clear on the description, not promising any food at all, and my rental price is correspondingly low, which is why I still get plenty of guests.  I also typically have people for only 1-2 nights, so their need to do some cooking is low.

But then I always put out a couple granola bars, a chocolate, and some tea bags with cup.  Because I haven't promised anything, guests are pleasantly surprised to be offered even these simple things.  Every once in a while if I am home and baking, I might offer a muffin or similar, which always gets an effusive response.

Amy

Yes, i provide Milk packets, tea leaves and sugar for self service tea.

Thank you so much for sharing this with us @Amy621 😊

Have you found it easy to communicate what your listing does and doesn't offer?

I offer my guests as full breakfast. This includes coffee, (a Cappucino, made in my machine, if they would like that) and I have a wide selection of loose and bagged tea, which is always served in a properly  warmed teapot with a cozy. Honey, milk and sugar always available.

I always provide juice (usually orange or cider), water and fresh fruit.

For entrees I will offer a choice of four, depending on the season and what I have available.

My standards are bacon or ham and eggs , omelet, blueberry pancakes, fruit and nut oatmeal,  and fruit bowl with maple yogurt and granola.

I also sometimes will do waffles, quiche or frittata, and when in season, crepes with local strawberries.

I use only locally tapped maple syrup for pancakes and waffles.

For the bread basket I will sometimes make scones or muffins, but usually purchase croissants from a local French bakery

I try to set an attractive table with a variety of placemats, cloth napkins, and assorted tableware.

Fresh flowers add a nice touch, or when not available I will use dried.

I have only one caveat- I ask that a party of two each order the same dish, as I am not a very good short order cook!

I have taken "the second B" of AirBnB  in earnest since I began this venture. I am retired and have the time to make the effort. Also, I feel that since my home is modest, and I offer only the one small guest bedroom, and a guest bathroom, I need to go the extra mile to make my offering competitive in an area which is now saturated with AirBnbs.

In short, I treat my guests as I would want to be treated if I were the traveler.  I do travel  frequently myself, and always appreciate when a host offers breakfast.

How wonderful to hear @Anne-Marie99. Do you find that these things impact your costs? Do you charge that little bit extra for a wonderful breakfast? 🥞

I do not at present, but am leaning towards doing that. I am not sure how I would go about it, though. I did include a cleaning fee this year (I clean myself), so that helps to cover it.
