Economical Heating Solutions in Perth, Australia

I am new to Air BnB, and facing my first winter as a host. The winters are mild here, but can be cool getting dow to 5-10 degrees celcius in the peak of winter. I am looking at installing heating to my large open plan living/dining/kitchen area (about 60 square meters) and am deciding if a flued gas heater or a split system air conditioner would be the best choice whilst also considering the on-going running costs. 

Any thoughts or experiences welcome. 

(note: I do have an evaporative air con throughout the  house)

Climate varies across Australia, and while winters in NSW can be mild, Perth tends to be colder and wetter.

In our 2-bedroom cottage, we opted for a split system air conditioner for year-round use. Most guests turn it off when they go out, but I plan to install a motion-sensing thermostat this year.

However, we do have lined curtains and blinds and remind our guests and remind guests about them during check-in. We also provide extra blankets and a thicker quilt in winter for added comfort.
