Hello! I am needing advice on which fire extinguisher I must buy for my property to conform with Airbnb rules. I have a small house, one level, and a gas hob in my kitchen. I have a fire blanket but I must buy a fire extinguisher this week! Many thanks.

Hello @Dawn1179
Thanks for your message—great that you’re being proactive about safety.
For a small, single-level home with a gas hob, I would generally recommends having an ABC-rated fire extinguisher. This type covers the most common types of fires:
A for ordinary combustibles (wood, paper, etc.)
B for flammable liquids (like grease or gas)
C for electrical fires
Since you already have a fire blanket (perfect for kitchen grease fires), the ABC extinguisher will give you good all-around coverage for other areas of your home. Just make sure it’s easily accessible and not too heavy to handle.
Also, don’t forget to check the expiry date regularly and let your guests know where it’s located in your house manual or welcome note.
Hope this helps and good luck with your hosting!

Nandini

Thank you so much for your prompt reply. So, I will put it next to the gas hob, just in case! Appreciate your help.
Hello @Dawn1179
Please don't rely on advice from hosts like @Nandini11 who don't operate in your country .
in the UK for example fire extinguishers are not recommended in kitchens .
i would check with your local host group who will be familiar with any fire regulations in your location that you need to comply with and what sort of equipment you might need .
Again just to remind you @Helen3 my intention was only to offer help based on general Airbnb experiences, which sometimes can be useful regardless of location.
Of course, it's always best to double-check with local guidelines or experienced hosts in your area.
Please read the above message carefully.
Thankyou.
The issue is you are making recommendations to hosts in other countries about what they should be doing about important issues such as equipment to comply with their fire regulations which are not necessarily correct in their countries . @Nandini11
Personally this isn't something I would do .
In another post you posted advice to a UK host about HMO regulations which are for long term rentals and don't apply to short term rentals .
its great you are so enthusiastic about contributing advice in this community but perhaps when advising hosts outside of your country it might be best not to advise on regulations specific to that country ?
Thank-you @Helen3 for addressing this.
My answer has been selected as Top answer that mean the solution i gave is correct and reliable as per Airbnb.
Thank-you again.
Wow that's incredibly rude to tell another host not to rely on any information I have provided - would you like to point out what is inaccurate in the advice I have given that shouldn't be relied on @Nandini11
all that being nominated as the accepted solution means is that the OP has indicated it is so - it doesn't mean it is correct 😀😀😀😀
