Got any House Plants?

Just added a few house plants and love them! It was fun picking them out. There were so many options!   

So do you have house plants? Do you and guest like them? Please share a picture even if lighting isn't good! 

 Do you prefer artificial or real? How old are they and do you need to re pot them as they grow? These are in the plastic containers that sit inside the ceramic ones. That way after watering them the ceramic pot catches the water and has plastic plug over the hole in the bottom.

@John5097  I used to have lots of house plants when I lived in Canada. But since I've lived in Mexico, I don't bother with that, as my yard is a tropical jungle that is green year-round. I do have some foliage cuttings in a variety of colors in the guest bathroom in a bottle of water.

I would consider house plants to be essential in place where there isn't much in the way of greenery in the winter. 

But for a rental, unless the host lives there or close by, or only gets short bookings so the plants could get watered often enough, it might be tricky- so many people can walk by house plants that are dying from lack of water, 20 times a day, and are completely oblivious. 

I'm also a fan of a plastic pot inside a decorative pot. I have large plants in large terracotta pots outside on my terrace, and it makes it much easier to pot them up to a larger size when needed, if you can just lift the plastic pot out. I've broken several large, beautiful clay pots trying to dig out the plant before I started doing that.

That's the way I felt also. I have so many outside plants and windows. I loved your cuttings down below, and the cool doorway in the background. I also was cutting flowers from the garden. There is something always in bloom, or some cool foliage and grasses.

@John5097 I have lots of plants in the Airbnb. They add much warmth and liveliness to a space. 

Our typical stay is fairly short so they are well

cared for. No pics, sorry. Yours are lovely, and nice choices. 

My own house is stuffed with plants. I couldn’t live without them.

I put easy-going houseplants that manage with some neglect in all our listings (spider plants, mother in laws tongue, ZZ plants, aloes) as guests love them and they really make a difference to a space feeling homely and softened.

I don’t ever have to worry about them dying as they’re almost impossible to kill.

In my own listing my apartment is filled with houseplants, and I save my space for some plants with more melodramatic tendencies as I have more control over their light and water needs.

Like @Quincy  I have a cat, well 2 of them- and I have a sacrificial spider plant that they enjoy feasting on- but otherwise they leave my collection alone.

We are experimenting with dried eucalyptus branches, and pampas grasses in one of our apartments, as they don’t need looking after and they are very visually effective.

@Paul1255 That pic is so good! The face says it all (and lol at ‘sacrificial spider plant’). The dried grasses and such is a great idea too. I do similarly. Great for filling corners and adding texture and interest to a space.

my cats destroyed my spider plant, chewed it to death, poor thing just gave up. i've got her in my "plant hospital" but i don't think she's going to make it.

Thanks for the suggestions! The spider plant seems perfect for the cat! I agree the plants add warmth and good vibes. I was using cut hydrangeas when they were in bloom. I let some dry out and it stays perfect. I also try different grasses, some bloom, but may try drying out some as well.

We are plant people and ask guests not to water them. We have done best with ZZ plants, palms and snake plants.

That sounds like a great topic to communicate with guest about. I usually have short stays so its easy to water them when needed, although its only been a week. So far so good! 🙂

Yes wow! That looks amazing! So much going on! I can understand how they can be addictive but managed to only get two to start with. I'm really starting to warm up to house plants. I love the veggies in the garden but where I'm at constant weeds. I managed to get poison ivy twice this winter!
