Have you bought products for your Airbnb that you regret buying?

Have you ever bought something you regret_.jpg

Hello everyone!

As hosts, I’m sure that you are always thinking, “What should I add to my listing? Does this look nice here? Am I making the right choices?” With all these questions in mind, new furniture is bought, a new sculpture is added by the TV… and this is where the problem can arise. You might end up regretting that new addition. Maybe it was too ugly, or it just doesn’t fit in the space. 🖼

Have you ever bought something for your home that you later regretted? If so, how did you fixed it? By sharing what didn’t work for you, we can help each other avoid similar pitfalls and make more informed purchasing decisions. 🧠

I’m so excited to hear from you all! Share your experiences, and let’s learn from each other!

Hi Alex. Yes, we have bought a few small things that weren't quite right for our Airstream BnB. We bought the wrong color duvet cover and a few decorative pillows that were either the wrong size or color. Super easy fixes.

We had to do a lot to get it ready—some gutting, a lot of remodeling and decorating. But we took our time and put a lot of thought into it, so once we were ready to list it, we had to do very little to make it what we wanted.

Hi @Lee5615

The good thing is that it wasn't a major product. As you said, you could fix it easily. What did you do with the duvet cover and pillows, though? Did you throw them away or keep them for yourself? 🛌

Best,

Alex

I donated them to a local  ministry. 😊

That is beautiful @Lee5615! I'm sure they appreciated this gesture. Do you usually donate used stuff?

Buongiorno @Alex

I have to say that I have never bought something for my house in Venice and then regretted having bought it.

Maybe because my house is not dedicated 100% of the time to guests, when we can we go on vacation there too.

So all the furniture meets our tastes, and I think also those of the guests 😉

Hi @Andrea6232!

Thank you for leaving your comment as always. 😄 I'm sure your guests enjoy your home as much as you do. Is there anything you are planning to add to your home soon?

@Alex  Small cabin licensed for 4 adults.  We furnished the living room with a 2-cushion loveseat and two easy chairs as it created the look of more space in what is a relatively small room (and would mean no extra guest "beds").  This was acceptable to our older renters but not to our younger renters who complained that a 2-cushion loveseat was too small to lie down and cuddle on and that we needed to put in a 3-cushion 6 ft long sofa.  After the 4th such complaint we relented and put in the larger sofa.  Now we have excess occupancy (over 4 persons) and questions about extra bed linens for the "sleeper" sofa.

Can't seem to win either way.

Hi @Lorna170!

I'm sorry to read you are facing so m any changes, but I'm sure all of these experiences are helping you gain insights and understand your guests better. What do you think will be your next addition to the house?🏠

Hi @Alex ,

Good question! We had this situation:

- we replaced an old firepit with something moderately priced from Home Depot. Not the most expensive nor the cheapest. Given our weather and the guests not keeping it regularly covered we found ourselves needing to re-purchase as ours was not aging well and getting too beat up.

- so we purchased a much sturdier, hardy,  more expensive model and hopefully won't be faced with needing to repurchase again.

The regret was not purchasing something more substantial to begin with. Which happens often with homeownership!

Much success!

Hi @Greystone0!

Thank you for sharing your experience in the post. I'm happy that you were able to find a solution by purchasing a better fire pit. Have you had any issues so far with the new fire pit? 🔥
