How can I optimize my Airbnb Wi-Fi for guests who play online games?”

Hi everyone!
I recently started hosting guests who are gamers, and some mentioned lag or high ping when playing online. My own project, ** , focuses on improving gaming performance through network tweaks, so I’m curious what other hosts are doing to manage Wi-Fi usage for gaming.

Has anyone set up bandwidth limits or separate routers for gamers vs. streamers? Do you think faster upload speeds or specific routers help keep gaming smooth without affecting other guests?

Would love to hear what setups have worked for you!

Hi Abidah

That’s a really interesting question — and great that you’re thinking about guest experience at that level! A lot of us hosts deal with similar issues when guests stream or game heavily.

Here’s what’s worked well for me and other hosts:

  • Upgrade your router to a dual-band or mesh system (like TP-Link Deco or Netgear Orbi). It helps distribute bandwidth evenly across devices.
  • Set up a guest network with its own password — this separates guest traffic from your private one and prevents one device from hogging bandwidth.
  • Check your upload speed: Gamers need strong upload (at least 10–20 Mbps), not just download.
  • Optional QoS (Quality of Service): You can prioritize certain types of traffic — handy if guests are gaming or streaming 4K video.
  • Regularly reset the modem/router between check-outs to clear any cached congestion.

These tweaks usually smooth out lag and make everyone happier — both gamers and casual streamers. 🎮
