How do you approach your Airbnb décor?

How do you approach your Airbnb décor?

I've been exploring ways to improve the look and feel of my place through decoration, and I am curious to learn from other host here.

What are your best tips for Airbnb décor? And do you ever decorate for special occasions or festivals, like Easter or Christmas? I'd love to hear your ideas and what guests respond to the most.

@PaulaThank you for summarising the feedback for me, that’s very sweet of you.

I’ve learned a lot from other super-hosts. My main takeaway is that, as a host, the priority is always the property itself, keeping it tidy and spotlessly clean is what really wins guests over.

Small, heartfelt touches or surprises that reflect the local culture are a lovely bonus. Upgrading the interior over time is also important, but I see it more as a gradual investment.

And finally, if decorating isn’t my strength, then the best solution is to make a friend who’s a designer and let them help me achieve my vision 😄

Honestly, just looking through everyone’s properties already feels like travelling around the world.

Thank you all!!!

Hi @Angel10141

We don’t redecorate our listings for special occasions or festivals, as we welcome guests from many different cultures and backgrounds. To keep the space inclusive, neutral, and comfortable for everyone, we maintain a clean and timeless design year-round.

For look and feel, I try to keep the place neat and super clean.. if you still want to add something.. you can add a new painting or small table decor item...

For special occasions.. I would do certain good gestures like.. if a guest tells me about a birthday or romantic getaway.. I would do add-on like some fresh flowers or candles... a cake or chocolate in the snack basket.... and a small note... guests usually love them...

Hello @Angel10141, what a wonderful topic you’ve brought to the community! 🌟

Some hosts have had great conversations about this in the past, so I thought I’d share a few of them with you.

I’d also love to invite other hosts to share their experiences, whether it’s their approach to decoration or what dates they decorate, if at all: @Alessandro1278 @Helen471 @Thembelihle1 @Marcos1103 @Monica3088 and @Vivek143

Looking forward to reading all the amazing experiences! 😊

Hi @Angel10141  This is such a great question. I’ve been exploring this a lot recently too..

From what I’ve seen (and learned from other hosts), the biggest impact doesn’t actually come from expensive décor, but from how the space feels overall.

A few things that seem to consistently work well:

1. Keep it simple and intentional

Clean, uncluttered spaces with a few well-placed elements (art, cushions, plants) tend to photograph better and feel more relaxing for guests.

2. Focus on “soft comfort” items

Throws, cushions, warm lighting, and curtains make a huge difference. Guests might not mention them directly, but they definitely feel it.

3. Add a local touch

Small elements that reflect your location (artwork, textiles, or even books) can make the stay feel more unique and less “generic hotel”.

4. Lighting is underrated

Warm lights or layered lighting (lamps instead of just ceiling lights) instantly make a place feel more premium and cozy.

About seasonal décor:

I think it works best when it’s subtle and minimal.

Instead of full decorations, small touches like:

1. Festive cushions or table accents

2. Fairy lights during winter

3. A simple themed corner

Let me know if that helps 👍🏻

Thank you again @Paula ..let me know if I have helped 😄

Hi @Angel10141 I've been hosting for 12 years. I don't add anything for things like Christmas. You can't possibly know what your guests might be celebrating, there are so many cultures. Also, I don't leave gifts for honeymooners anymore. I used to do it but not a single guest said thank you for the champagne or mentioned it in the review. So just a waste of money.

It is far more worthwhile to concentrate on making the decor and amenities nice. And the most important thing is to  make things spotlessly clean.

Hi @Tara0 - Totally on the same page ... I can understand that frustration, whenever you are giving 💯 percent and guests are not recognising it !

Btw ..which is the best decor accessory that you have in your listing? 😊

@Vivek143 A very good selection of books.

Hello @Angel10141 I love to include "seasonal" items such as pillows, throws, and decor. In the winter, I add snowmen. In the fall, I add pumpkins and seasonal floral. I also use WELCOME mats that are seasonal.  As others have noted, we never know what others are celebrating so keeping the vibe of the season is always a nice touch ☺️

Aloha @Angel10141

I do not do special decor for holidays.  That has not made a difference in my bookings. But I am in Hawaii so I have a very steady flow of guests.

The interior design of your space needs to pull in your guests through the photos. Following a theme is important. Colors to pull in the eyes of potential guests. Cannot emphasize enough the first photo of listing has to pull in the eyes 👀

Hi, my concept is quite minimalist; I prefer to keep everything very simple, but always leaving little touches for the children (like chocolates/candies) and a drink (red wine) for the adults.

The place is in front the beach,, the view does not need many things ...

Warm Regards

@Angel10141 I have in the past changed my seasonal decor. For religious holidays like Christmas and Easter I don’t because I don’t know who will be renting during those days and don’t want to offend anyone. But I do decorate for the four seasons. And if I hear about a birthday arriving at my rental I have left some Birthday surprises. I’ve also had someone baseball tournaments in our area and left some sport surprises!
just because.

I apply a style that looks modern with light colors and some warm touches in cushions, paintings, etc.; with quality products that are durable and not too fragile.

Hi @Angel10141

I think decorating for special occasions might be expensive as you have to change your decor every season and every occasion.  My experience is, guests value more of comfort and cleanliness. The way you present your space to your potential guests play an important role as well.  Your space should be presented in an attractive way without clutter. Keep you space super clean and provides amenities that will make the place functional and comfortable.

Hello @Angel10141, Many great replies here 😊 Hosts are sharing their experiences.

Some of the main points they mentioned include:

  • Seasonal touches can be nice, but holiday-specific decor isn’t always necessary.
  • Comfort, cleanliness, and functional amenities matter most.
  • Minimalist, durable design with small thoughtful touches works well.
  • Presentation and listing photos are crucial for attracting guests.

Love to hear your thoughts too.🌻
