How do you get your sheets/linen/doona cover crease free?

Hi everyone,

I’m fairly new to this and starting to get the hang of the cleaning side of things, but I’m struggling with getting crease-free linen.

How do you get your sheets and doona covers looking smooth and tidy without wrinkles?

I take everything out of the washing machine straight away and hang it up neatly, then fold it once it’s dry but it still ends up quite creased. I store the linen in large bags so it’s ready to grab when I’m heading off to clean the house.

I don’t have the ability to iron or press linen, so I’m hoping there might be a trick to minimise wrinkly linen.

Would love to hear what works for you. Thank you so much in advance!

Thanks everyone, for taking the time to share such helpful advice. I really appreciate it.

I will certainly try some of the suggestions, but since I have cotton sheets, I feel, maybe I am having too high expectations. The wrinkles aren't too bad, I just felt they should be wrinkle free, like in hotels... But, since this is a side hussle, and I have limited time, and not the equpment they have at hotels (‌‌😆) I might have to settle for a few wrinkles in the sheets.

Thanks again for all the support and great suggestions

@Amanda2688 , I love that! These patterns are so vibrant and full of character. Do you have any favourite colours that match the vibe and interior of both countryside and your listing? Do you prefer darker shades or opt for pastels?

I used to use a better quality 100% cotton bedding. They were expensive to replace and had more creases. I swapped to a poly cotton bedding which is a lot cheaper and less creased. I never had a guest complain about a few creases but you could try a crease release spray which I have found were good when I used to use 100% cotton bedding.

@Andrew3934 that’s a pretty sensible switch!

Since durability depends on material as well, I’m curious, do you notice any difference in durability between the poly-cotton and pure cotton after lots of washes?

A hand held steamer would probably help.  For our purposes, I didn't fuss too much about mild wrinkles or creases, the duvet covers we use are pinstriped and probably a polyester/cotton blend, so they do not ever 'appear' to be wrinkled.  Maybe it's an optical illusion!

Hi @Anne16758 , a hand held steamer is a great choice! Do you have a specific brand in mind that does it the best - that is both cost effective and easy to handle? I'd love to hear your suggestions 🌻

No, I was fortunate enough to have a guest leave one behind.  It works fine!

Not sure if there is anything more you can do about cotton sheets getting wrinkled outside of placing them on the bed immediately after the dry cycle. You could spend time ironing them, but might not be the best use of your time.

Hi @Andy4481, I totally hear you!

On a side note, hosts on this thread have also mentioned using wrinkle release sprays or water mist to help with wrinkles.  Have you ever tried using a steamer or wrinkle spray?

I have not tried a steamer or wrinkle spray. I didn't even know a wrinkle spray existed lol.

Thanks for the advice though. I might have to look for it.

Haha, right? @Vårin-Eddy0 , I always learn so many things from other hosts in the CC, and it always makes me go like "what, I never thought about it before!"

Keep us posted if you try out that trick 😉

Hello @Vårin-Eddy0,

This is an excellent question! Many hosts have shared their experiences, and here are some of the main points:

  • 100% cotton sheets tend to wrinkle easily, but most guests rarely mind as long as the linen is clean.

  • Quick handling after drying and using a handheld steamer can help reduce wrinkles significantly.

  • Cotton blends or easy-care fabrics wrinkle less and are generally much easier to maintain.

We’d love to hear what works best for you!

Regards,

Hi! A couple of simple tricks that help a lot without ironing:

• Don’t overload the washer or dryer—linen wrinkles more when it’s packed tight.
• If you use a dryer, take the sheets out while they’re still slightly warm and fold them right away.
• Give them a good shake before hanging or folding to release the wrinkles.
• When putting the sheets on the bed, pull them tight and smooth them with your hands—the tension usually removes most wrinkles.
• Some hosts also use a quick fabric wrinkle-release spray when making the bed.

In my experience, once the bed is made tight and neat, the small wrinkles disappear, and it looks very clean and professional for guests.

Hi @Adin1256 , love these tips! Honestly, it’s amazing how much difference a few little tweaks can make.

I haven’t tried a wrinkle release spray yet, but I keep seeing hosts rave about it. Do you have a favourite brand that just works the best, or do you just DIY it?

Hello!  My guest often get slightly wrinkled sheets as I choose to use 100% cotton sheets.  I don’t have a super high end listing.  And we are rural in the PNW.  I have received. Many compliments on my sheets actually so I don’t feel bad  about a few wrinkles.
I have stayed at Airbnbs that use microfiber. Probably because they don’t wrinkle.  It’s like sleeping in a plastic bag.  Unless you are high end I wouldn’t worry too much about the wrinkles.

Here are  a few ideas that may help if you have the time.

You can use a steamer, spray some wrinkle release spray or super simple,  you can use a fine mist of just water and smooth out with your hands when you put them on the bed. Clean the house and then add your quilt or whatever else you might use.
Just remember to lightly spray anything with moisture so the sheets are dry when you add the top cover.
best of luck!

@Clair16 I guess many hosts would agree with you as they've shared in the community, that they prefer cotton sheets since they are durable and breathable.

The misting trick is such a good one! I have also heard about wrinkle release spray and look forward to trying it someday. Have you ever tried using essential oils in your mist bottle for an extra fresh scent, or do you keep it simple?
