How do you get your sheets/linen/doona cover crease free?

Hi everyone,

I’m fairly new to this and starting to get the hang of the cleaning side of things, but I’m struggling with getting crease-free linen.

How do you get your sheets and doona covers looking smooth and tidy without wrinkles?

I take everything out of the washing machine straight away and hang it up neatly, then fold it once it’s dry but it still ends up quite creased. I store the linen in large bags so it’s ready to grab when I’m heading off to clean the house.

I don’t have the ability to iron or press linen, so I’m hoping there might be a trick to minimise wrinkly linen.

Would love to hear what works for you. Thank you so much in advance!

Vårin

Thanks everyone, for taking the time to share such helpful advice. I really appreciate it.

I will certainly try some of the suggestions, but since I have cotton sheets, I feel, maybe I am having too high expectations. The wrinkles aren't too bad, I just felt they should be wrinkle free, like in hotels... But, since this is a side hussle, and I have limited time, and not the equpment they have at hotels (‌‌😆) I might have to settle for a few wrinkles in the sheets.

Thanks again for all the support and great suggestions

You are very lucky indeed @Kitty-and-Creek0 !
I would love to be backed up to forest service land.
We have five acres. And neighbors around us. But we are very rural and we love it.  It’s so exciting when we catch a glimpse of the local wildlife!

🤗

I turn on fans and run air purifiers.  I don’t usually have back to back guests in the winter so it’s a bit easier.
this time of year things are quite slow.

Thanks for the tips @Clair16!  Winter definitely brings a slower pace 💯

Do you have any winter rituals or routines as a host, may be prepping up for spring cleaning or so? How do you make the most of the quieter months?

The #1 Sheet Set on Amazon, typically my go to are grey, white or beige. Here is a link to the sheets that I use. They are wrinkle free, have no creases and easy to maintain for STR.

Amazon Basics Lightweight Super Soft Breathable Brushed Microfiber 4 Piece sets are sold in all sizes.

Hi @Bern1888 , thanks for sharing your go-to sheet set!

Have you noticed how they hold up after lots of washes? I always worry microfiber might start pilling or lose softness, but maybe that’s just my experience!

Microfiber does pill and becomes rough after constant heavy use, and you need to rightly chuck it out This is why you need to replace when you see that happen. The price is not too bad to replace.

Thanks for sharing this @Bern1888 ! I am sure it will be super helpful to hosts reading this thread.

Were you using microfiber sheets since the start , or is this something you opted for just recently - may be due to factors like cost, durability, guest comfort or so? I'd love to hear what factors influence your amenities related strategy!

I typically use different types of linens for different seasons but the big one from Koh;s is what I use for Summer. They are not cheap, and most of my linen is what I would use for my family since my STR is in home with host on site. So not much strategy.

I understand that you don't have an iron but it might be worth the inexpensive investment to purchase one.  I make up the bed by putting the fitted sheet followed by the top sheet.  I then iron the top sheet only where it makes up the part of the bed near the pillows.   Then I fold the top sheet down and iron the fold and up to the top of the sheet.  It takes about 3-5 minutes and really makes the sheets look crisp and ironed.  It's a lovely illusion.

@Christine4536 I love the idea of just ironing the part of the sheet that guests actually see, it’s a total time saver 💯

Do guests ever comment on how crisp the sheets look, or do you think it just adds to the overall “wow” factor without them realizing why? 😉

Dear Vårin,

If ironing isn’t possible, choosing the right material can make a big difference.

Poly-cotton or microfiber sheets usually wrinkle much less than 100% cotton.

A few other tricks that can help:
- Shake the sheets well before hanging or putting them in the dryer.
- If you use a dryer, take them out while they are still slightly warm and fold them immediately.
- Store them flat rather than tightly packed in bags, as pressure can create more creases.

Good quality, wrinkle-resistant fabric can save a lot of time if you’re cleaning frequently.

Hi @Christopher2144 this is such practical advice! I totally agree, choosing the right sheet material is a lifesaver, especially when you’re turning over the place constantly.

Do you prefer coloured sheets or go with white linens so that it's easy to wash them altogether in bulk?

Hello Bhumika,

I usually go with pastel colours rather than dark ones.

They still look fresh and bright, but they’re a bit more forgiving than pure white when it comes to small marks or frequent washing.
