How do you get your sheets/linen/doona cover crease free?

Hi everyone,

I’m fairly new to this and starting to get the hang of the cleaning side of things, but I’m struggling with getting crease-free linen.

How do you get your sheets and doona covers looking smooth and tidy without wrinkles?

I take everything out of the washing machine straight away and hang it up neatly, then fold it once it’s dry but it still ends up quite creased. I store the linen in large bags so it’s ready to grab when I’m heading off to clean the house.

I don’t have the ability to iron or press linen, so I’m hoping there might be a trick to minimise wrinkly linen.

Would love to hear what works for you. Thank you so much in advance!

Thanks everyone, for taking the time to share such helpful advice. I really appreciate it.

I will certainly try some of the suggestions, but since I have cotton sheets, I feel, maybe I am having too high expectations. The wrinkles aren't too bad, I just felt they should be wrinkle free, like in hotels... But, since this is a side hussle, and I have limited time, and not the equpment they have at hotels (‌‌😆) I might have to settle for a few wrinkles in the sheets.

Thanks again for all the support and great suggestions

@Alexander1975 that's a great observation! I haven’t tried bamboo sheets yet, but I keep hearing they’re super soft and almost wrinkle-proof. Are you using bamboo sheets and do you notice a big difference in feel or durability compared to cotton or cotton blends?

I've used John Lewis easy-care for years - also having a throw / quilt on top, hides the fact there might be a crease.

But am starting to move more and more to professional sheets / duvets (which don't have poppers) and a local professional laundry as it saves time (and can be tax deductible) - just seems to make things easier.

Hi @Ben454 , that sounds like a smart setup!

Are you noticing a big difference in quality or guest feedback since moving to professional laundry?

The short answer is no.

The longer answer is...

Cleaning is a nightmare on so many levels - but dealing with an individual, you have to be part carer / psychologist, dealing with their partner dramas, cat's being ill, etc etc

A proper firm although triple the cost, is more hands off - which is what one needs if you're not on site.

Also, bedspreads are a secret weapon to hide creases etc

Hello , I use the wrinkle free option on my dryer while drying and it works provided I’m using the sheets immediately.

Wow @Bisola2 , that's such a handy option! Does it really give a wrinkle free output or sometimes the result is a hit and miss? I've noticed that if you put a larger amount of load in dryer, it's hard to keep them wrinkle free.

Well it's a nice question. Absolutely, it's difficult to remove wrinkles completely from cotton linen unless you get them ironed which we get them and spread them tightly on bed. But better use cotton blend linen which when washed and properly dried has very less or no wrinkles. They look better also. Thanks

Hi @Anoop16 , that’s a great point! Cotton blends really are the first choice for most people.

Do you have a favourite cotton blend brand or style that’s your go-to?

One of the widely accepted brand here is Bombay Dying. Specially it's pastel shades are good to choose. If washed and dried properly, do not retain wrinkles and then folded gently do not need ironing either.

@Anoop16 such a classic 😍 I was roughly checking out their collection just now and it's so good!! Love the vibrant colours and different patterns.

I know the summer season in India can be harsh and bedsheets might eventually lose their bright colour if drying them in the sun. Do you have any special routines to make sure their colours don't fade away?

I use a handheld steamer, which is also available for guests to use. It takes about five extra minutes to steam the pillowcases and the top of the duvet. I just do a quick tidy of any bedding that’s visible. The fitted sheet and underside of the duvet are left as they come out of the dryer. Using wool dryer balls helps a lot with wrinkles, but be mindful of guests who may have wool allergies.

@Alison1039 , ironing “just the visible parts” strategy is so practical. Another host has also mentioned it in the comments above.

Do you find your guests actually use the steamer much? I think having it around in the listing comes handy to guests when needed!

Hi

Like you I don’t iron, when starting out I bought what was supposed to be non-iron they needed ironed.
I switched to Out of Eden bedding and haven’t looked back, I wash as usual either line dry or airer, fold and place at the bottom of the pile.
I have 4 sets of bedding per bed,  so by the time it’s at the top of the pile ready to be used there’s little to no wrinkles.

@Amanda2688 , thanks so much for sharing your experience!

With four sets per bed, do you have a favourite pattern or colour that matches the interior of your listing, or do you stick with all neutrals?

We are rural so go for a toile of paisley patterned bedding, which is more in keeping with a cosy countryside vibe.
