want to rent house in cocoa beach florida
Hi y'all!
I have a long-term guest who is renting a room. Because I live here full-time, the kitchen and bathrooms are fully stocked with both environmentally sustainable items (microfiber to wipe down the counters, cloth paper towels, beeswax for food storage) and disposable alternatives. I feel like my guest is using more of the disposables, as well as other home supplies and she has not offered to replace them. Just curious, how do you normally handle home supplies when occupying a shared space?

@Emma3729 We don't have to manage supplies in a shared space but here are some recommendations: get different color containers to separate supplies, or label the supplies (which ones are for guests), for linens if you have to share the bathroom, then I recommend keeping yours in the space that is not shared. When you need to use them, take them with you and hang them to dry in your area. The best way will be labeling things so that guests know which items are theirs to use. I hope this helps!
In terms of sharing supplies, a simply conversation with the guest…here is what’s included ..anything over is extra…
Not sure how much you use vs. they use, however, from our view, our #1 goal when we have longer term guests is to keep the apartment clean, especially the kitchen (stove) and bathroom… and damage free…we find stocking soaps, paper towels and storage containers helps with this….
We stock guest with multiple full bottles of our preferred cleaning solutions, dish and hand soaps, full foil, Wrap, baggies, storage containers, both disposable and re-washable….and a small supply of TP and paper towels.
Anything over this, we expect them to purchase.
Thank you!
You are most welcome!
One thing we wanted to mention as we’ve had 2 LT guest take bags of supplies with them to their next housing stay, and a few ST guests take 32 oz bottles of bath soap, shampoo, we now add to our checkout instructions a simple line to cover ourselves…
”if you fallen in love with our x,y,z during your stay, and decide to take to home/your next stay, we’ve glad you’ve enjoyed them! We will simply bill you for them via airbnb. “..something like this…
We don’t have this arrangement I’m sorry we can’t help
Clear boundaries and maybe not leave items out you dont want them to use. Communication is key.
Hi Emma
In my case, when there are stays of more than two weeks, I offer a general cleaning and change of sheets and linens, and I recommend that guests buy their own supplies.
I hope all ok with you
best regards
We have no first hand experience with this setup but here are our two cents. The approach would be a combination of communication setting up clear expectations, limiting access to consumables, track your expenses and lastly charge a little more to offset the cost.
Hey @Emma3729
We don't have long term stays, so your question and the responses have been enlightening!
Thanks!
Hi @Emma3729
When staying in a shared Airbnb, it's considerate to use common supplies responsibly and replenish them if needed. Communication with your guests/hosts is key; discuss expectations, and be mindful of shared spaces to maintain a positive experience for everyone.
This is very interesting @Emma3729 . We don't have shared spaces, so I am of no help, but find the answers from others quite enlightening.

Hello @Emma3729, I just wanted to check in and inquire about how you are finding the suggestions from our Hosts. There are great ideas in this thread on managing supplies.
Please let us know once you've had the chance to go through them 😊
Hi Paula! I've found these ideas very helpful! Thank you!
Explain to the guest that if they will be a long term guest then they will need to supply their own belongings
