Locks with individual codes for each guest

Locks with individual codes for each guest

Hello Everyone,

I am looking for some much needed advice. We have 3 Airbnbs and are currently using the locks that you program manually at the lock which has the numeric keypad with buttons.  The problem with these locks is it's very difficult to change the codes every time you have a new guest.

In staying in Airbnb's when I travel I notice a different  type of locks where the code changes for each guest and it automatically stops working for that particular guest upon checkout. Same with check in, it doesn't allow for early checkin until check in time .

I am seeking any advice on these types of locks were they can easily be programed for each guest.

Your in put is very much appreciated !

Liz

Airbnb has software.  I personally like to use my own app on my phone.  I use Alarm.com but I can give or remove codes when I want.  I can schedule Start and End times for access.  I don't buy cheap door locks but Amazon is my go to haha.

Hi. I use a digital lock box from igloo home. My doors are unique and regular doors knob sets don't work, so I use the lock box and place the keys inside. So far it has been working great. I'm able to assign access to different people with their own codes remotely (I'm 2hrs away from my property). I set the duration of their stay and send the guest the code to access it. I usually add an hour or two on each end in case they ask for early check in or check out. There is also a master code for back up. The app logs and notifies me when it is locked and unlocked and by which guest. I use the Lockbox 3 with the bridge, which you need to communicate with the lock box.

Best of luck!

Jonathan

Hi, Liz. I went through several smart locks with my Airbnb, before finding the best that works for me and guests. I recommend the Schlage Encode Smart Wifi Deadbolt--specifically, the one's in satin nickel finish, like this https://www.schlage.com/en/home/products/BE489WBCAMFFF.html, because the keys are much easier to read during both day and night, without having to first wakeup the screen's light, since the keypad background is light. The versions with a dark keypad background had people squinting to see numbers.

The lock's material is very robust and locks/unlocks smoothly. Also, since you can connect the lock to WiFi, you can remotely set specific user codes per guest, with access for only specific dates and times, as well as lock/unlock.  Note, it's always good to have a backup general guest code always stored, in case there are WiFi issues and you can't set a new code...just make sure to change the code to a new one after guest(s) check out. HTH.
