Hello to Airbnb Hosts;
I recently travelled to Italy and stayed with some great hosts. No complaints and I would gladly recommend them to anyone.
There was one thing that set one host apart from the others. During our stay in Catania, our host provided 2 sets of keys - street entrance lock and unit lock. Very helpful.
The reason I mention this is that if my partner and I had different adventures set for the day it meant that we could come and go as needed. In the other cases, we were limited to coming and going together since the keys were required to open the street entrance lock, the internal building lock and the unit lock were the only set we had.
I appreciate that not everyone is willing to provide 2 sets of keys I would highly recommend this as a valuable guest convenience.
@Gord419 we give one set of keys as standard but are happy to supply a second if asked.
@Gord419 The most sensible solution is to have electronic locks. No keys to lose, and no planning if guests to separate ways. While it's thoughtful of these hosts, I think the future should be keyless.
My two cents.
@Kia272 electronic is fine until the power fails. Sadly our power supply is not the most reliable in the world.
I totally agree @Gord419! A second key makes a huge difference. I recently stayed a week in London with family and being the only "keyholder" was nerve-racking for me 😅. It was also quite difficult to coordinate when someone wanted to sleep in while the rest of us had a walk about.
Great to hear that other Hosts are keeping this in mind - @Bob297 ,@Mike-And-Jane0 and @Kirsten266. I think it's more difficult to request a second key when the Host isn't nearby though.
Love that you're keeping things modern as well @Kia272. Having come to the UK from China, it was a big adjustment to start carrying keys around with me again. Everything is keyless over there!
I can relate to the pain of having 1 physical key. I stayed in an Airbnb once where the keycard kept all the power on and we were given only one key card. I reached out for a second and they said they couldn't give us another. It was most ridiculous since all the power/wifi/ac etc went out if one left with the keycard to go out or even just to go to the in-building gym or pool. Moral of the story, don't put your guests thru that pain. Get a digital key pad! One that's a smart key pad and you can change the PIN codes from your smart phone. My favorite is still a Yale, like this one: https://amzn.to/3StaEkJ
