Once a guest checks out, the key moment begins: managing their departure and organizing the arrival of the next guests.
Some hosts mention that the first thing they do is enter the property for a quick inspection: check that everything is in order, look for any possible damage, and confirm that nothing has been left behind. After that, they coordinate the cleaning and prepare the space to welcome the next guest.

I believe those first few minutes after checkout are essential for maintaining quality and catching any details in time. Wouldnโt you say so? ๐

I do the same. Funny sometimes you don't catch everything until you really start cleaning thoroughly ๐. Externals are another thing. I found way later that my doorbell was broken until a personal guest mentioned it to me.

No I am off property. But some things are not immediately visible to the eye. Another example is when i was about to clean the toilet bowl a kids toy was thrown in there (white). Blended in with the toilet. Flushing would have been a disaster. Imagine my plumbing bill.

I trust my guest are Honest, Or if some thing is missing, they might have taken by mistake. After the guest has checked out I inform my care taker that check all fans, ac, etc. is switched off. Some guest write to me on next day If they have carried some thing by mistake and If I want it back I tell them to send it. Some times guest forgets medicines or charger, I message them and ask address on which I send the courier. So far by grace of God, no major issue.

@Paula as we live on site we try and catch our Hosts when we hear them on the path. Have a chat to see if they have enjoyed their stay and take care on their journey home or to their next night's stay.
We then go and check the cottage immediately to make sure that nothing has been left behind. If they have, I send them a message and say I will put it on the front doorstep of the main residence. That way if they are still in the area they can come back. Often, they are at the beach or having breakfast after leaving.

@Paula we don't have anyone staying more than 1 week. As we like to stay on site in the main residence while guests stay. We have found that we are there incase something happens for emergencies. After 5 1/2 years still on 5 star reviews it works.
I have observed if guests staying a week compared to 2-3 nights there is more cleaning and it looks like on first view their is more where and tear on the property.
We offer/leave a bundle of linen for guests to change themselves after 3 nights. They have never been used. They are happy to keep the same linen on the bed.
I hypothesis that guests staying to 2-3 nights they are out and about and often eat out. When staying a week they stay in the cottage longer, cook more meals and using everything.
i have observed that the white linen is dirtier from possible bodysweat, not having showers daily-body dirtier, sunscreen lotions still on bodies, or body oils for suntanned. Once the guest arrived with pre body tan treatment. These sheets ended up going in the recycle bin after 3 washers try to bring back to white and no success.
