What type of laundry detergent do you provide to guests?

Hi again!  🙋‍♀️ I'm curious what type of laundry detergent do you provide for guests use?

Currently, our old property manager had purchased the pod style detergent.  I can see the pros of it being mess free and easy to portion for guest use, but our cleaners are using it too, and I'm not happy with the residue its leaving behind on the sheets.

Personally, I use a liquid product at home.  Do any hosts provide a liquid?  I'm concerned about the mess, the whole jug walking off, etc.

I've also looked into strips and powdered tabs.  Because we are in the mountains, I'm concerned that a cold water wash won't fully dissolve the tab.  I'm not sure about the sheet.  Do any hosts provide either of these options and what is your feedback?

I'm leaning towards providing a liquid for the cleaners and a tab or sheet for the guests, but I'm really open to hearing what everyone says.

I am trying to make the condo and our stay environmentally friendly, so that is a factor.  I provide shampoo, conditioner, body soap from The Good Fill to take advantage of their refill program, and liquid dish detergent and hand soap that also comes in large refills.  I've moved away from single use plastics as much as possible, and I'm hoping my guests value the sustainability features in our space.

We use the liquid XTRA brand from Walmart because it is 1/2 the price of name brand. This is provided for guests and used by our cleaners. All our linens are white and they come out clean each time.

In 3 years hosting of three properties no one has ever walked off with the detergent.

Hello @Paula and all of the wonderful hosts who shared their laundry insights!

I'm planning on providing a jug of HE liquid detergent for the cleaners.  That is an easy decision.

I'll be experimenting with what to give to guests in the future, but I will use up our remaining pod style for guests now.  I have both a pressed powder tablet and loose powder on order.  I was not aware that powder wasn't a great option for the HE front loaders @Lee-And-Lisa2 so thank you for that feedback!  I may just need to use up these powder products on my home laundry if it doesn't work out for guest laundry.

@Anika191

Hi there, I provide the laundry sheets as I have a front loader and I want to avoid spillage on the machine and floor. I use them also at the listing when I do a clean and there doesn’t seem to be a problem with them dissolving in the wash.

cheers!

Hey mate I prefer neat and tidy

My option is soap cubes that include both soap and detergent

I do same method for dishwasher

I just put them in a plastic bags so it is visable

where they should be, because if you put your self in guest shoe first thing they do check the whole unit including appliances

Although I keep reminding customers that extra cubes will not be for free, so I can get some extras, similar to budget hotel get token for washing, short term stays never use them, long stay usually get thier own.
