Which style do you prefer: minimalist or maximalist decor?

Deco.jpg

Hello everyone 😊

As I was admiring the beautiful listings you all host, it made me think about how important it is to bring a bit of the host’s personality into the decor. It adds that unique touch and could even offer a competitive edge.

With that in mind, I’d love to hear about the type of decor you use. Where do you find your inspiration? Do you lean more toward minimalist or maximalist styles? 👩‍🎨

It would be amazing if you could share a picture of a room that showcases the decor you’ve chosen for your listing in the comments of this thread.

Best regards,

Looks like I will be delisting my property as of this weekend.  This should be my last interaction.  I'll feel that a minimalist perspective with natural light is most soothing.  Keep up the good work on creating bonds that lasts.

Sincerely,

John

Hi @John-C-2 , we're so sorry to see you go!

I noticed this thread after a long time and just wanted to check-in to see if everything's okay.

Did you eventually delist your property?

@Paula Definitely Maximum decor style from me! pp.png

Hi @Emma-Jane-And-Matt0 , I am a bit late to the party, but I love these unique touches that you've added to the listing 😍

How do your guests react to these amenities? Are these something that attract guests the most to your listing?

Looking forward to hear more about it!

I am not sure what we are in terms of these categories, but I would guess minimalist.

For where we are, everything is built for the elements. Our winters last about 5-6 months and we get a lot of snow and cold. We build mostly with wood, stone, and rope because they can flex, shrink, and expand with the changes in temperature and winters without cracking or breaking like drywall. When we build with wood and rope, we can coat them easily to make them waterproof from any moisture. Now to decorate these natural elements, we are limited to decorations that also look natural. This final product is the woodland cabin look, but for us every element is designed to repel moisture, retain heat, or move and flex without breaking.20240119_084237.jpg

These are fantastic ideas @Jeremy-And-Cat0 ,

Are there any specific challenges you’ve faced with decorating or maintaining your cabin during the harsh winter months?

Decorating no issues but maintaining is always a challenge.

The coldest I have experience here is -37 degrees Fahrenheit, and the most snow we had standing was about 5 feet. We have a tool called a roof rake which we used to pull the snow off the roof to keep them from collapsing under the weight. Then we build the roof out of metal so the snow slides off better. Any water pipe is always a risk, all crawlspaces have to be heated and any septic or water pipes outside of the foundation either have to be buried no less than 60" deep or have a heat cable wrapped around them to keep them from freezing. Sometimes the cold will make any kind of plastic or vinyl so brittle it will break like a cracker, so everything outside has to be made out of wood, metal, or stone if you want it to last more than one year.

It is alot of work but like anything the more winters you go through the easier they get. With the right gear nothing is too hard. Plus the spring-fall is so beautiful it makes the winters worth it.
