A guest reported not being able to lock two windows on the second floor. Now, of course I will be looking into getting that fixed however I did not think it was a big deal. To get to those windows a potential intruder would have to break into my yard for one window and into a yard of my neighbor for the other through a gate. They will need to put up a ladder, climb to the second floor and pry the window open without a handle. They will have to go unnoticed by immediate neighbors on three sides (three feet between each house) and they have to know that these specific windows are not locked. That scenario is so unlikely. If someone is that determined to get inside, they will break a window or a door, they are not going to be checking window after window on a ladder in the middle of a busy city surrounded by neighbors
I think it might be to stop someone falling out rather than an intruder getting in.
@Bronwyn100 a kid won’t be able to reach to open and adult can unlock it. There is only so much I can do to prevent stupidity
I agree. 😂
@Inna22 @Bronwyn100
It wasn't that long ago we all left our windows and doors unlocked and went out for the day or slept with the windows open.
Did you climb on a chair inside to peer through the window as a child?
I don't thankfully recall falling out but do recall climbing in and out of windows...and pranks with sheets over one's head going BOO!!!
I guess it depends what your Guest has gone through or where they are used to living as to why they have mentioned it.
Maybe message them and ask?
I recall when slide and up down windows were effectively banned in new build homes because a person could get injured if it slide down on them and unsupervised and adventurous children fell out of them.
There's an incredible number of different styles of windows and why they are designed in the way they are and placed where they are.
@Inna22 This is my POV but you have gone out of your way to explain why it couldn’t happen.
If my guest told me how thet felt, I would have been immediately thankful and quick to rectify the situation. You see, a guest comfort of feeling safe in an environment that is unknown to them takes priority over what you think a criminal may or may not do.
Just one possibility of something that could occur. The neighbor or a guest of the neighbor could be the intruder or a peeping Tom. The scenarios you mentioned are not unlikely. A thousand TV crime shows detail all the things a criminal will do to get into one’s home.
Yep, for me, the guests concerns are paramount.
@Gwen386 Fixing a window is not something that can be done instantly. Of course I sent someone to take a look though. The neighbor who has theoretical access via ladder they would need to own and put up (while knowing that this specific window does not lock) is a family in a multi million dollar house that also knows it’s an airbnb. The whole point is that the scenario is fantastical. I do appreciate your POV- that’s why I posted
