Response Rate when emails are going back and forth

Ihave recenty had two conversations with potential guest which I was not, at the time in a position to accept and did not want to decline at that time - we had conversations which have led to one not being able to stay and one now booking.  It will have affected my status despite replying very promptly to both?  What should one do?
