A year after the Palisades & Eaton Fires

One year ago, in response to the Palisades and Eaton fires, we saw hosts like you step up to help displaced Californians beyond hosting—funding supplies, providing hot meals, and offering little acts of community care that live on as rebuilding continues.

To mark the anniversary, we brought together LA-based hosts and guests to celebrate what they love about their city of Los Angeles.

In response to the disaster, Airbnb.org funded free, emergency stays for 24,000 displaced people for over 77,000 total nights.

The fire season is here in Australia again.  With extreme heat and dry lightning already affecting parts of the country. At this time of year, homeowners and hosts are always on heightened fire watch as conditions change quickly, and risks can move closer to local communities.

In December, we sent out to Hosts in our area encouraging them to prepare their Airbnb listings, reviewing emergency information, checking safety equipment, and making sure everything is in working order.

Being prepared helps support both guests and our wider communities during these high-risk periods.

Thank you for your thoughtful message @Laurelle3.  Extreme heat and dry lightning can bring a lot of anxiety, especially when conditions can change so quickly. It’s nice to read that you and hosts near you are taking relevant measures and have been actively preparing for guest safety.

Are there any resources or reading materials that you have been sharing with hosts, so they can stay updated on the fire risks and changes throughout the season?

This is the post that I posted to our Hosts

🔥 Bushfire Awareness 🔥

With bushfires currently burning in Victoria and close to the NSW border, we ask all hosts across our South Coast region to please stay alert and prepared.

Now is a good time to:

• Check your Bushfire Survival Plan

• Ensure guests know your evacuation procedures

• Share local emergency information in your house guide

• Monitor official updates from NSW RFS and the Fires Near Me app

If you have guests staying or arriving soon, a quick check-in message to reassure them and outline safety information can make a big difference.

Please continue to prioritise your own safety and that of your guests. We will share updates if the situation changes.

Take care and stay safe,

@Laurelle3 , thank you so much for sharing this important message and for looking out for both your fellow hosts and guests during this challenging time. I was reading about it and the bushfires have been deeply concerning. My thoughts are with everyone affected. Stay safe!
