News about the co-hosting split payout feature

We recently shared that as of August 1, 2018 we’ll no longer offer the co-hosting split payout feature. Many of you use and appreciate this feature, and we understand that this change has implications for the way that you do business as hosts. It’s always our intention to improve your experience in any way we can, and we’re sorry for the inconvenience this change will pose for you. We’d like to give you some background on why we’re making it and offer some alternatives for paying your co-hosts.

It’s important to note that we are not removing co-hosting. We’re invested in helping you succeed, and co-hosting overall has been a valuable tool for many of you. So why are we removing the split payout feature? When we added the ability to pay co-hosts through this special feature, the number of co-hosts was rather small and we built a system that handled the volume well. But in order for this feature to meet the needs of a much larger community of hosts and work seamlessly with Airbnb’s evolving platform, we would need to completely rebuild the feature so that it grows with your needs and meets our internal reliability standards. We’re not building a feature to replace this one yet, but we know it’s important to certain hosts and co-hosts and will continue to evaluate ways we can improve and grow the co-hosting program.

The good news is we’re exploring the best way to introduce a new and improved feature. We can’t give you a date yet, but will keep you informed. In the meantime, you can still pay co-hosts through the Airbnb platform by changing your Payout Preferences to split your payment with your co-host. To do this, with your co-host’s permission, enter their payout information in your Payout Preferences tab, and set the percentage you would like to share. If your co-host is not comfortable sharing their account details or ever withdraws their authorization, you can pay them outside of Airbnb through secure online payment apps, bank deposits, cash, or checks.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, and we’re grateful for each and every one of you who host and co-host—and support local businesses while you’re at it! We look forward to building a feature that will be useful to you and better meet the needs of this growing community.

It's clear by looking at these comments that Airbnb does not intend on replying to any of these questions being asked! Why are they not answering anyone?? My plan is to have my 3 hosts send my payout via Paypal or Apple Pay, I'm lucky that I trust they will pay me! Without the current split payout feature, I will not be taking on any new properties to co host, due to the fact that I dont know them or whether or not they will pay! I know they are giving us the option to set up a split payment, I would never give a new host my bank information for payment!  Like the others, I also clean the properties, this is just a big fat mess. Thanks for messing up a good thing, Airbnb!

@Holly191 exactly so. My take-away message is that @Airbnb could not care less whether I switch to VRBO as my primary hosting platform.

If you could just be honest and say you no longer want to provide the service as its costing you money or time or you need too many staff to deal with it people would appreciate that more instead of the complete russbish in the non statement provided. You are meant to be a community and a helpful platform. Seems its only when it suits you. Why not leave in place the perfect co host split of cleaning fee which works for so many of us. Instead now we have a lot more work. I guess though now we will be scrtinising payments to us much more.

BAD DECISION COMPLETELY SCREWS UP MY BUSINESS MODEL...I AM A HOST AND A COHOST...MOST OF MY CLIENTS ARENT LOCAL...THIS IS A VERY BAD IDEA!!

Will the cleaning fee routing feature option go away along with the percentage of payment feature? I use that to both pay co-hosts and to get paid for the locations I do the cleaning for.

@Kimberly93 yes, it's going away.

Yes they are removing the feature...the other option one of the cohosts stated that we can do a 3 wasy split..1 as a % of the booking and 2 fixed ratte for cleaning and 3 the owners % that is the only way it can work

wow. Thats super inconvenient for everyone involved isn't it. //sigh// Keeping everything in airbnb for tax purposes is the most responsible if you're treating this as a business. This is going to make things super messy for people cohosting for others, not to mention the liability it brings on hosts that are attempting to share responsibilities with others. Plus giving someone else your bank account information so they can list it in their payout preferences? Really? Would you like me to write my credit card numbers down as well?

Come with a solution before you discontinue one of your competitive advange...

And realy with only one month notice.

You should seriously reconsider your decision.

If people make changes to their business model, they could also decide to change the platform.

I raised questions about this just a week ago with Airbnb support - and they had not received any info about it from Airbnb Corporate, I had to forward the email I received, to them!

In fact the first time I heard about this was the email last week, less than a week's notice.

As per all the other comments, there is no effective work around.   I was paying my co-host a fixed fee, and the system will now no longer do that.

Airbnb has engineered an unproductive outcome.

Have just redirected my proprietary domain forwarding from Airbnb to Innclusive.

can you make it possible to change the listing agent?  my co-worker help me set up my account, and as she did, she made herself the listing admin.  i am the host, and she is the cohost.  she doesn't receive any $, but unfortunately, all the reviews and superhost "points" go to her, and are not credited to me

Having to manually pay my House keepers is going to be a major drag!

Your point of difference is no longer.

Ive put 50% of my listings onto booking.com for this exact reason. the other thing im liking about booking.com is they dont try to push everyones nightly rates down. A great example was a 3 bedroom 1 bathroom apartment i can sell on booking.com for the same period for $170 a night. Airbnb price tip was $87 a night.

I do not agree nor understand nor believe in your reasons but you must have your hidden reasons.

Meanwhile could you please leave at least the cleaning fees? that is the worst part to calculate because it depends on the number of reservations and has nothing to do with the percentage.

what about the cleaning fee????? how come no one at Airbnb is responding to any of the million questions we the cohosts have????
