Stocking your home with eco-friendly supplies and amenities can reduce your carbon footprint and help your listing stand out. For example, guests searching for stays can filter their results for electric vehicle chargers, which rank among the top 25 amenities on Airbnb.
Not everyone can install an EV charger, but there are other ways to host more sustainably. Head to the Resource Center to discover tips from hosts around the world. (Special thanks to @Patricia2526, @Anika191, @Christina1706, @Cynthia-Lu0, @Greystone0 and @Robert1702 for contributing!)
How do you make guest stays more sustainable?
We have tried to make our cottage sustainable since we opened on Airbnb 5 years ago. How we managed sustainability isn’t about spending lots of money after the initial build installations e.g. insulation, water tanks and solar. We continue to care for our cottage by continuous maintenance by fixing things early, choosing quality over quick replacements. Small, consistent care makes a big difference over time and reduce what we send to landfill.
@Laurelle3 Consistent care and choosing quality truly make a big difference over time! 🌿 Does the water from your tanks and energy from solar panels fully meet your cottage’s needs? Also, was there a small sustainable change you made that had a surprisingly big impact?
@Quincy answering your questions. The water tank we use on the garden as not connected for house hold use.
The solar supplements the cottage usage and we have installed 3 batteries over 4 years trying to reduce our bills.
The significat change was having dinning chairs (2nd hand) reupholstered and 2 bucket chairs we bought 5 years ago for our Airbnb. They are now blend together in the open living area.
Hi @Laurelle3!, thank you so much for sharing 🙂 I love how how you applied all those sustainable practices!
My most important tip for making guest stays more sustainable is to make sustainable choices easy and visible. This includes clear guidance on waste separation, encouraging towel and linen reuse, and providing information about local, eco-friendly transport options and regional businesses.
When guests understand why these choices matter and how simple they are, they’re much more likely to participate, and often appreciate being part of a more responsible stay.
Hi @Eric8698, it's great to see you sharing your tips on making guest stays more sustainable. In terms of guidance, how do you make your guests aware of this?
