Accurate Guest Reviews protect hosts

I randomly booked an escape this November and it proved to be excellent timing for a tour of the new review process from the guest's side. I had just hosted someone who was really nice but had some communications issue and I was curious about how my "feedback"

came across to that guest. Meanwhile I've been reading community forum feedback on the new review system I learned there are quite a few hosts who just don't review guests negatively. This is either due to fear of getting a bad review back, or just not wanting to engage. There is also quite a bit of very legit anger from hosts who read all 5 star reviews of a guest only to discover they are not true. I hope this post will help other hosts see how that "feedback"shows up for guests.  I think the new process allows you to be candid and give feedback that will hopefully improve guests behavior and also give future hosts a heads up about who they are actually hosting. It is not easy giving feedback but it can be constructive. I recently hosted someone who was a really nice well intentioned guest, they just did not read the listing and so they were fuzzy on what we offered and our rules. They were also young and new to Airbnb so it was easy to say in my review of him that he is a good guest but future hosts may have to work a little harder with that guy. He is still a very nice guest and I'm glad to have hosted him. That is what I'd hope to understand when I'm considering hosting. From seeing how I was reviewed as a guest I understand that the private feedback can only be seen ONE TIME by the guest and it is in the bottom of an email, NOT visible to the guest on the site. This feedback WILL BE VISIBLE to future hosts so if for instance your trying to determine whether to host someone or not you'll be able to tell if the person just checks in/out late or the issue is really a bigger deal....

I think as hosts we need to protect each other so I'm hoping people engage in this process.

Thanks for taking the time to read this!
