Hey host friends, Could use your eyes and expertise. I recently left the noise behind and built a semi-off-the-grid tiny cabi...
Airbnb has once again decided to make it more difficult to search for a place to stay with their new features.
And my listing is nowhere to be found. Anywhere. Anyone else experiencing issues?
@Suzanne302 yes i had a little play around on my phone, i almost NEVER use my phone to make an ABB booking as a traveller, i can't see the new categories on the actual webpage, could a cache issue.
Anyway, that option for weekend, week or month is a HUGE problem for us. We only get week long stays during school holidays, and even then i think only xmas/summer.
Out of curiosity I looked up "farms" and found our listing featured, only once i scrolled on the map to my state. I'm astounded that a founder of a country as large as mine thinks this is a good idea, I can't imagine that many people are seriously keen on a "weekend" away that is 3000kms from their home. I will say this: I found 3 listings in my local area I had never seen before. perhaps they have 3night minimums, or are super new.
My property does not appear in "amazing pools" even though we are one of the few (or even the only) place in my region with a heated pool. oh well, they are putting a lot of faith in AI and time will tell if this was a bad idea.
Luckily you can still search the old way - by putting in your chosen region first, and your dates.
@Gillian166 My maximum stay is 3 nights (I'm a homeshare and don't want to live with someone more than 3 nights, lol) so I will never show up in the default "any week" search.
If you are a host that doesn't have a full week available in your booking calendar, you won't show up either, so that will make it harder to fill the days you do have. For example, you might be pretty booked, but have 4 or 5 days that aren't. You won't show up!
If you have most weekends booked, but have a rare Friday or Saturday available that could be filled, you won't show up in the "weekend" search!
If they don't adjust this, I predict a decrease in bookings overall because those "filler" days hosts have will never get shown to guests who are looking without specific dates.
I think that is what is happening to me, my 1-3 day slots are staying unfilled. I did book weekly reservations when this first started so I thought it was OK. Now it is harder to completely fill the month. I have even tried to lower my prices and not a nibble.
I appreciate your concerns @Suzanne302 and have been hoping and hoping that the flexible open ended searching would return. When I personally look for a place to book, I am usually flexible to some degree and don't put in dates. NOW, the flexible searches are only for a weekend, a week or a month! It makes no sense and I only expect fewer bookings honestly. I have sent in 3 separate feedbacks concerning the matter. If it's not broken, don't fix it! Much worse now. It seems like a travesty, though that does sound dramatic. That's how it feels to me. I am in the north western mountains of NC if you still are looking for a place this fall. Let's hope enough people share their frustrations.....
I can't believe they've let it go on this long. I can only guess they have other motives that we can't imagine.
I ended up going to VRBO and almost immediately found something I wanted because their search function IS guest-friendly. This trip is to the Boone area, but next time I'm headed to the Asheville/West Jefferson area I'll keep your listing in mind!
What is ABB trying to do with this new business model image ? Imagine you are a new user trying out ABB for the first time and the front page you are presented with is populated with the most unimaginable houses you cannot ever imagining booking. How much new business will it attract. How much new business will it destroy? And how much old business will it drive away?
Hello,
I also do not like the current heading for each property, all the character is out of it, you just see "home" or "cabin" etc., Airbnb used to encourage a creative title that described the home. A guest now has to click on the photo to get the name of the Airbnb. I preferred the single column appearance with the descriptive names.
Also, I do not like the split reservation, it is very confusing.
I also do not like the upscale homes being the attraction. The beauty of Airbnb compared to VRBO is the expectations of the traveler were not the $500 a night crowd. More like the young travelers, young families and others who wanted a nice decent place to stay.
I also do not know how Airbnb is getting the categories since I do not see anywhere to select near a National Forest...when my home is about five blocks from a trail up in the NF. I would like to be listed under that category...how can I do this or does Airbnb assign these categories. Those fancy homes should be under the old category of "Plus" homes.
This is very upsetting to be diving into this new rollout and seeing the results. I would like Airbnb to go back to its old format, easier to use for guests, I think.
Suggestion: instead of driving us old timers/long term users out of the platform, please consider creating a special new section for our properties and our customers--- Airbnb Classic . com it. Market it. Capture it and hold it before it disintegrates and migrates to other platform eager to host it.
Hi everyone,
There's a lot to unpack here, apologies for not coming back to you earlier on some of the points you raised!
@Suzanne302 We've heard from you an other Hosts a lot of feedback on Categories already, and I wanted to assure you that we're currently reading, collecting and elevating all your suggestions and comments to the product team. Regardless of whether a listing appears in a specific Category or not, the normal search function for stays, i.e. with just location and dates will still catalog all homes. 🙂
@Emilia42 The new functionalities and updates were rolled out gradually, which is why some of you might have been seeing different search options in the past few days. I'm happy to confirm it's now been fully rolled out.
@Susan990 I remember you sharing some great insights on Monthly Stays earlier this year; we've let the team know how valuable this feature was for Hosts like you, so they can take that into consideration as part of their ongoing work to improve the platform.
Thanks everyone for your comments, we'll keep you updated as we get more details on the various points you've touched on!
Emilie

Thank you! But the categories thing isn't really my issue. Do they understand that guests can no longer search "anytime"? I'm not the only host that has brought this up.
The only option is Exact Dates, Weekend, Week, or Month.
That automatically eliminates many listings from being shown with the weekend, week, or month search, and reduces the chances of a host filling a booking in between. They are severely limiting the options of both guests AND hosts by limiting the search function.
I mentioned in another thread I was looking for a place to spend 4-5 days in Sept or Oct. My dates are flexible and I wanted to see what was out there. It used to be everything in the area would pop up and I could see their calendars to pick a date for my trip. But now in order to see all options on Airbnb, I would have to manually type in a separate search for every single date combination. I gave up and found a place on VRBO where I was able to filter by location, price, and pet-friendly. Boom, all these options came up, I found a place I liked, and scheduled my trip for the dates it was available.
@Suzanne302 Gotcha, apologies for not grasping this right away. I've read similar comments about the "anytime" search option and we've passed that on to the team. 🙂

@Suzanne302 One of my listings disappeared in this way: I go to my home page/pro hosting page and see the three listings. There's a search box with one guest filled in. I hit search and it brings me to the Airbnb homepage. There, where I would normally see only my three listings, I suddenly see only two. Hit search again and still only two show up. The cabin was gone. I got a review yesterday and even the stats didn't include that.
I assumed it was a temporary glitch while @Airbnb scrambles to get control of this huge thing, and sure enough, today I got a booking for that cabin. Even though I still can't see it from my home page search.
I didn't get any of the usual notifications except for an email, but that's another story.
@Ann72 I don't know what's going on, but I continue to watch my listing views plummet. Before the rollout, my 30 day views were close to 900, so an average of about 30/day. They currently sit at 667 and continue to fall. Daily views are pathetic and averaging around 10-15 per day.
I've gotten a few bookings, but nothing far in advance which tells me these most recent bookings only found me because they needed specific dates.
@Suzanne302
Most of us (host) all live the same bad situation.
you can read more on this thread
and please repost your comment there to regroup all of those situations together.
good luck
@Annie1372 I've already posted there multiple times. The admins have already taken note of my comments. I was just replying to @Ann72
