Hi hosts,
I saw a discussion recently where a host mentioned that Airbnb has removed guest phone numbers from guest profiles. They also said that after a booking is confirmed, they no longer have access to the guest's phone number and that Airbnb blocks attempts to request or share phone numbers through the platform.
However, I've received two reservations recently and can still see the guest's phone number, including the option to call them.
Has anyone else experienced this? Are guest phone numbers being hidden for some hosts but not others, or is Airbnb testing a new feature in certain markets?
I'd appreciate hearing what others are seeing on their accounts.
I also still see real phone numbers @Chantol1 , it's because the system has only been rolled out in the US
Oh wow that must be a little frustrated because not all guest check their MT. I think Airbnb should still allow the phone number or atleast some communication outside of their regular platforms
@Chantol1 I am in the US. The number that I see on the guest bookings is NOT the actual guest number, but an alias. I ask my guests to text me the number they will be using while travelling...so far, no guest has responded as they think I already have their number. AirBnB is making it very difficult to communicate with guests, even after they have booked and paid.
I totally agree with you, I get that they want to keep all communication on the platform but they have to realized not all guest will respond to your message in the MT its so much easier when you can just call them or send a whatsapp message.
It really pisses me off. I often need to contact guests after they leave and they won't answer the phone numbers assigned to me because it says it's in another state!
This is exactly why I stopped relying solely on Airbnb's messaging system. I built a system that captures guest contact info early in the booking process so I always have a direct line of communication regardless of what Airbnb does with their platform. Has been a game changer for my properties
When the masked phone numbers are in place, they are there right from the beginning @Kamisha4
Unfortunately your system won't be able to capture the real phone numbers early on and save them. It will be saving the masked number (that could look like a real number), which is de-activated soon after the booking comes to an end.
Airbnb is currently testing temporary or masked phone numbers in some markets in US while other hosts still see the guest's actual number after booking others only get limited contact options through the app.Airbnb does a lot of regional or account-based testing before changing things platform-wide.
Very unhappy with this block. It's interfering with me giving the best service to my guests!!!
This is the MOST IRRATATING change on AIRBNB. Its all BS.....they just dont want us to have direct communications, which is STUPID, because I could leave my direct phone number or business card in the unit or any number of things to get them. They need to reverse this balogney and get the numbers back and ONLY block them if the guests request it. and give US an option NOT to accept the booking if they dont want to give the phone number.
NUMBER 1.....the MAIN reason I want their number is so that I can RESPOND IMMEDIATELY via text. I dont want one more thing in the way of quick communications. I pride myself on great and fast communications. I also send them instructions for checking in and out and updates.
Number 2.....who the heck would want to avoid the reasonable fees of AIRBNB???? Stupid! I like the prescreening and the system and the Damage Insureance feature, and collection of state tax. I have NO interest in doing all that stuff.
Finally......HELLO AIRBNB!!!!! I'm handing access codes to my HALF A MILLION $ OCEAN FRONT CONDO to a STRANGER and your worried about me having their phone number???? GIVE ME A BREAK!
Well.....as you see....this touched a raw nerve.
