Hi all,
I have just listed my top floor room on Airbnb but I have noticed that when I search on Airbnb for “any type” my room
shows on the map but when I search for “room” only it disappears.
Is there anything I need to change to ensure it shows when searching for room only. I have selected in the property type on the listing that it is a room in a house. But is there something I am missing here?
Thanks in advance

Hi Rodney
I think I spoke to Airbnb and they mentioned about making sure private room is mentioned in the description copy and title so I did that and after a few days it changed to Private room when searching for it.
Hope this helps.
Oliver
Hi @Oliver970
Double-check that your listing is set as a “Private room” (or “Shared room” if applicable) in the listing settings.
If you’ve selected “Entire place” but your listing only includes one room in a shared home, Airbnb will categorize it accordingly, which may confuse the search filters.
Ensure the bedroom/bathroom and guest access settings accurately reflect that it’s a room in a shared property.
Boost your visibility and attract your first bookings faster by offering a 20% discount to your first three guests. This limited-time offer helps you gather valuable reviews quickly, build credibility, and climb the search rankings on Airbnb.
Thanks @Patricia2526
It is set as room only already but for some reason when i search for it, it appears when i select any type of property in the filter but dissappears when I select to filter properties by room only. Airbnb dont seem to be able to fix it either at the moment, they kept saying wait until it is live but it is already live. They have now sent me a message to say it is live and should be fixed but it isnt fixed.
When you say "Ensure the bedroom/bathroom and guest access settings accurately reflect that it’s a room in a shared property." - do you mean when you click on the room in the listing - i cant see anything here that says anything about room in shared property although ive written it in the description and various places.
Thanks
Oli
I think @Patricia2526 is correct.
I would show this listing as an Entire Place/Guest Suite. Be sure to indicate if the guest has their own private entrance, or if you share the entrance and any other shared spaces (like the laundry room/washer).
Missing Amenities
You might want to update your amenties list. Airbnb says you don't have hot water, Heating, Essentials (TP, towels, linens)
Thanks Joan for this. Ive tried changing the property type as you have suggested but the problem is still happening annoyingly.
Oli
You may need to contact Airbnb CS and tell them you have changed the property type and don't want to be under the Rooms Category.
You will not appear under "Rooms" anymore when the guest uses that search filter, as Guest Suite is NOT considered a room. You also won't appear under "Entire Home" as a Guest Suite is not considered an entire place. You should appear under "Any Type" filter.
If you want to keep the "Room" Property type, go back and change it to Room and contact Airbnb and ask why your listing is not showing up under "Room" when guests search using the Room Filter.
In London if you list as a whole place you can only let the property for 90 days @Joan2709
I would list as an en-suite bedroom/guest suite as this is what it is .
I'm don't know anything about London restrictions, so thanks for bringing that up!
For the US, a guest suite is generally a bedroom inside a home (a room?) but it could also have a living room/kitchenette included. Normally has a private entrance though. It does qualify to meet many of the STR regulations for a "shared" space inside your residence in most cases though. Most guest suites in the US are shown as "entire place" inside the home.
There is a couple of choices in property type on Airbnb for Guest Suites, so @Oliver970 best to be sure what would be correct for London per @Helen3.
Hi @Oliver970 , How did this issue resolve for you? I am having the exact same problem.
I'd had my listing for many years now but it's been off-market for a couple of years now, until now.
Thanks
Maybe Airbnb has decided to put my listing up for review to make sure it meets the definition of 'Room' : https://www.airbnb.com/help/article/3400

Hi @Oliver970 , thanks so much for sharing this valuable tip and solution with us. Do you have any more tips about listing description and title, that you think hosts should consider? I will tag @Rodney239 for you, so that the host can review your tip.
Hi @Rodney239 , have you tried updating the listing description as Oliver suggested? Let us know how it goes!
Regards,
@Bhumika Sorry, I did not see that @Oliver970 had replied.
The solution for me was to request a 'Category' be set via the 'Elevate' system - I asked that my Category be set to 'Rooms' - a few hours later that was completed (by someone at Airbnb I assume) and that fixed my listing problem.
I had tried and checked everything else before that with no luck.
Thanks for letting us know @Rodney239 ! How did you come across this solution though? Just curious if you referred to any help article that made you request the category or if you did it while exploring the settings 👀
It was help from @Joan2709 on this forum
The Airbnb interface does say this but the wording is completely intuitive e.g. (1) the Category section does not hint that your listing would not show up without a Category and (2) why one would need to use a system called 'Elevate' do get it done.
Ah! I see @Joan2709 @Rodney239 ~ I am yet to read Joan's other post in detail yet, but I will make sure to pass over your feedback to the Airbnb teams. Thanks so much both of you, for the feedback and detailed notes @Joan2709 🌻
