Claim for damages - scam

We recently stayed at a place in Las Vegas for 3 days.  We cleaned all the dishes, took out all the trash and swept before leaving.  We were only in the unit to eat sleep and shower.  We are non-smokers and the hosts are claiming smoke damage and burn marks in the unit.  We didn’t think to take any pictures. $7k in damages.  Any advice? Is this a scam from certain hosts??
