Guest profile photos

It really bugs me that it is not a requirement for guests to have a clear photo of their face for their profile ID.

Imo, and in the interest of host safety, Airbnb should make that mandatory.

Ideally, the guest photo should be taken from their government ID - with the option to replace that with a more flattering one of their face. Guests' long-shot travel shots, pet shots and artistic impressions are not useful in the security sense.

Or, guests could have an option to have an image of their favourite gerbil or whatever for their profile shot, but the host should have an option to click a button for the government ID photo. Not the entire ID, just the photo.

It's a matter of security - knowing the person who is showing up at our homes is the person that made the booking.

The onus should not be on the host to police this. Isn't security part of what we pay Airbnb for?

Thoughts?

HI @Karen277 ,

I agree and after having several reservations with no photos at all and one photo of the guys chin I decided to add a rule in my house rules - saying that a photo of their face is required on their profile, that can identify them upon check in (no cartoon, no faraway, a face photo like on an ID).

Thanks for bringing up!

Hello @Karen277 👋

I wanted to stop by and share a Help Center article that might support you with guests profile photos: Check a guest’s profile photo

You've also shared some ideas here and I'd like to invite you to leave Airbnb your feedback here: Share your feedback

I hope the info above helps 😊

Hi Rebecca

Thanks, but no, that link doesn't really help. I already have this requirement in my rules, but sometimes it gets ignored. I don't want to cancel a booking because they don't have a suitable profile photo. That is not a solution.

The best solution is the one I offered - it should be up to Airbnb to make it mandatory.

Thanks for the link to the feedback and for trying to help.

I'm quite sure I have requested this in the past and nothing changed.

Have a nice day
