What happens if guests book your place for a month but then a family emergency has them leaving a week early?
It really depends on what the emergency is... If the guest's circumstances fall within the extenuating circumstances policy, and the guest can provide proof, then they might be entitled to a refund. You can find details here: https://www.airbnb.co.uk/help/article/1320/
If they do not, and the stay is 28 days or more, then the long term cancellation policy will apply and it depends on which long term cancellation policy (flexible or strict) you have selected in your settings: see https://www.airbnb.co.uk/help/article/475 and https://www.airbnb.co.uk/help/article/1361
Very good information. I appreciate your time in reaching out to steer us in the right direction.

if they cancel their cancellation will be processed under the long stay cancellation policy they booked under @Patricia-And-Thomas0
they may be able to make a claim for a cost of the days they didn't stay under their travel insurance
It's unlikely that they would be able to claim under Airbnb's EC policy as it doesn't cover family emergencies.
Thank you for your response. Very good information. We appreciate your help.

@Patricia-And-Thomas0 In these circumstances I would ask the guest to cancel which whilst not giving them a refund will open your calendar. Then tell the guest that if you manage to rebook the space then you will give them a fair refund.
What you must not do is cancel/shorten the stay yourself!
Thank you for that information. We appreciate your help.
