How do I get my property to come up for 7 days on searches for a week instead of for 5 days?

How do I get my property to come up for 7 days on searches for a week instead of for 5 days?

People searching  for a week's stay in our vicinity will be offered a mixture of properties based on 7 days and 5 days.  Ours comes up with 5 days and the price per night based on 5 days.  We want it to show 7 days (which is a week after all) and the price per night based on those 7 days.  This is important because we give a substantial discount for stays of 7 nights or more.

We do have full weeks available matching the search criteria.

Does anyone know how we can get the full 7 nights to show rather than just 5 nights?

Any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks, Richard

Hello @Richard2572,

I have made some tests searching for a one-week stay in Grasmere in July and August and here are my results.

First I see your Daffodil listing on the 4th page of the 15 result pages. Only for July because no date are available for August in your calendar.

Second I see stays for 7-night and 5-nights but no stay for 4 or 8 nights. I only found one 6-nights stay. It looks like everything between 5 and 7 days qualifies as a week for the algorithm.

Third the 7-nights stays I found all have the following parameters :

- a minimum of 7 nights for a reservation making shorter stays impossible

or

- some days are not available for check in or check out, making shorter stays also impossible. For example I saw the following calendar in my results :

Capture d’écran du 2023-03-10 00-21-30.png

In this calendar the first available check in date is on 11th (first non-stroke and non-gray date). The first available check out day is on 14th because the date is non-stroke non-gray and the minimum stay is only 3 nights on this listing. However 3 nights does not qualify for a week so the stay does not show up in the results. The next available check out date is on 18th. And 11th-18th is the result showing up in my test. Even if the minimum stay is only 3 nights for the listing, a booking of 5 or 6 nights is actually impossible in this calendar, that is why a 7-nights stay shows up.

So the algorithm for a one-week stay seems to look for 5-nights stay first, then for 6-nights if no 5-nights are available, and finally for 7-nights if no 6-nights are available.

Also the algorithm make a first selection on listings based on other criteria otherwise it would easily find 15 pages of results with only 5-nights stays.

So my guess is your listing is shown with a 5-nights stay because you have no 7 nights minimum stay restriction and every date of your calendar is available for check in and check out.

It is only a late night guess and the algorithm should be improved anyway to show your week discount with your current parameters.

Regards,
Olivier

Hi Richard!

Did you manage to get the help you needed with this elsewhere, or can we do anything to help?

On a different note, your listings are absolutely beautiful!  My Dad's side of the family come from the Lake District - Keswick - so I have many happy memories there.  The exterior of your listing and the stained glass remind me of my great-grandparent's house and gave me such nostalgia for my childhood!

Please let us know if you still need help, and feel free to come and post more about your listings, and hosting experiences.

Jenny

Hi @Jenny ,

Thanks for your lovely feedback about our listings.

We would still like help on this, please.  It is our listing for Daffodil Cottage that really suffers as we offer a third off for 7 day stays, but guests searching for a week are shown our price based on 5 days (so the higher rate) even when we have 7 days available.  Other nearby properties are shown as available for 7 days, but they are much cheaper because our discount has not been included in our price.

I don't understand why a search for a specific week will return some properties as available for 7 days and others as being available for only 5 days, when equally available for the full week.

Is there something about our set-up that drives this do you think?

Any help you can offer would be much appreciated.
