Lake Tahoe Host : Cleaning, Maintenance, How to manage from a far.
I'm not a new host. However, I used to have a property manager who handled all of the Cleaning, Meet & Greet, Check-in/Check Out, Linen Hire and Laundry. Now that I'm renting 70% on my own through Airbnb he is not making enough to continue in that. Problem is I'm not sure how to pick all of that up and I dont live anywhere near the property.
I know companies like Pillow handle this. However, they are not in the Lake Tahoe area yet. My main concern is managing the cleaning people and finding good ones.
Can anyone recommend a service to help manage this and can anyone recommend cleaning people, maintenance people in the Lake Tahoe area (Stateline NV) ?
Thanks

I've been using VRA (http://www.vacationrentalassistance.com/) for my Airbnb near Tahoe City. VRA handles the cleaning, pre and post stay inspection, hot tub service, and some minor maintenance stuff. I manage the listing and guest communication myself. VRA did a good job even though their fee is definitely on the higher end. So far this arrangement works well for me. However, recently VRA bumped up their fee significantly, and it doesn't make sense from financial perspective. So I'm looking for a cleaning service similar as VRA. Any recommendation is appreciated!
I'm guessing VRA increases their fee on me is partly because they want to sell me their VRA care plus program which is their full service including listing and guest management. Anyone had experience with VRA Care Plus? I haven't figured out whether it makes sense for me or not. Thanks.
Hi @Brendan1 , I operate in Silicon Valley and it's hard to find good cleaners out here. However, we've been pretty successful in acquiring and retaining the right people for the job. So far, the best kind of cleaners we've hired in this business are those who are small business owners of the cleaning business whom we can communicate with the owner directly. Small business owners get things done and understand the basics of punctuality, quality and efficiency without much training. But just as important, we have a clear agreement with our cleaners and we clearly describe what we need up front. We are also very good at communicating the cleaning schedule and what needs to be done for each job (we use software to automate all of this). As a result, their jobs are predictable, their pay is predictable and their work schedule is predictable. This predictability is what keeps our cleaners around. We're not a difficult client, we also pay fairly. Of course, it gets easier to find a cleaner when you have more work and more properties to clean, as you'll be more prioritized as a client. But overall, we prefer working directly with an owner of a small cleaning business as we don't have to train them as much and they take their job seriously.
Cheers!
Hi Jason! I just read your comment here! Can you share with us what software you have been using to keep things automated? Thank you,
Andrea
I’m in S Lake Tahoe if you still need help?
Thanks, Robin

Hi Brenden,
That is a tough spot to be in, but it’s a super common challenge for Lake Tahoe hosts, especially when you're managing from San Diego! Having a great local team is the only way to succeed when you're remote.
You don't need a traditional full-service property manager anymore; you just need to split the job between an amazing remote platform and a reliable local operations team.
The Perfect Solution: Evolve Vacation Network and Their Local Partners
You are looking for a hybrid solution and their Tahoe Connections. There is an excellent company called Evolve that is perfect for hosts like you. We are one of only three Premier Local Partners Evolve uses in the Lake Tahoe region.
Here is how it works:
Evolve Handles Everything Remote: Evolve handles the entire booking side of your rental. They manage listing optimization, guest screening, all communication (pre-stay, during the stay, and post-stay), and even have a 24/7 guest support line. They get great visibility on all major platforms (Airbnb, Vrbo, etc.).
Their Local Team Handles Everything On-Site: They step in as your reliable, boots-on-the-ground team!
Your Local Problem Solved
You mentioned that managing cleaning and finding good people is your main issue—that's exactly what their service partners specialize in:
Local Operations: They coordinate every turnover based on the Evolve schedule. This includes the core services: cleaning, linen hire, laundry, and stocking supplies.
Maintenance & Guest Contact: They also handle the "Meet & Greet" and "Check-in/Check-Out" aspects by being the local contact for guests and managing minor maintenance issues so you don't have to worry about finding a local handyman in a pinch.
The result: Evolve manages the income and guests, and their team manages the property and operations. You get great booking volume without the headache of finding and scheduling local vendors from 500 miles away.
Next Step
We recommend reaching out to Evolve to see if they are a fit for your Tahoe cabin.
