Hi everyone,
I’ve been a Superhost for almost 10 years (with almost 300 five-star reviews), and since August 2025 my listing no longer appears under the “Room” category. It only shows when guests search under “All Types” which has caused a big drop in visibility and bookings.
I contacted Airbnb Support multiple times. It was confirmed to me by several agents that the issue is technical and not caused by anything on my side. What’s strange is that at the beginning of the year (and in the past), I was able to switch between “Room” and “Entire place” categories just by calling Airbnb Support, and they changed it immediately. Now, the same request is being rejected and I’m told the tech team is “working on it” — but nothing has changed for months. I’ve also requested several times for my listing to be manually corrected back to the “Room” category, but my requests have been declined without any clear explanation.
What makes this even more frustrating is that every time I contact support, my previous thread is closed although the problem is still unresolved, and I get assigned to new agents who don't really understand the issue about the ongoing case. I have to explain everything again from the beginning, and there’s no direct communication with the technical team.
Has anyone else experienced a similar problem with a listing being stuck in the wrong category or removed from a category? How can I escalate this to ensure it’s actually fixed?
Thank you
Ella

I changed my listing from Private room to Entire place in February when I was traveling and renting out my whole apartment (90% of the time in the past 10 years I live in this two-bedroom apartment and rent out one room to guests). It had never been an issue switching between Room and Entire place before — of course, after updating the description etc to fit the category.
Right now, I’m not traveling, so the Rooms category wouldn’t be correct — my listing should be under privat Room, not Entire place.
Am I understanding correctly that “Rooms” refers to entire apartments, or am I mixing something up?
Hello @Ella56
Yes there have been recent posts here on the CC (use search bar just above for more) and here is a link that you'll want to read:
Hope this bug gets fixed soon!
Thank you for the feedback Joelle!
I read the other post and saw the suggestion to request the Room Category via Elevate.
I’ve already done this twice — both requests were denied without any explanation, and one more request is still pending. Support has reviewed my listing and confirmed that everything is correct on my side.
Just to see what happens....
If Airbnb rejects private rooms again, try re-submitting under just "Rooms" (the one you requested be removed Feb 26) and see what happens?

You should have two separate listings.
One for the entire place
One for the room
See the direct message I sent you.
Yes, I know what you mean — I actually used to have two separate listings like that. See DM
Was this ever resolved? I have the same issue and have had my elevate request pending for over 6 weeks now with no movement. My conversion on this room is abysmal compared to my other rooms.
Do you know If there is any update on getting the Room issue resolved?

Hi @Joan2709 👋
I can confirm this is not a bug and the system is working properly as intended, however the Airbnb team have said that they are working on the usability for 'Rooms', because the absence of category may cause confusion when searching.
They also recommended checking this help article: Listing a Room as in some instances, hosts aren't meeting the eligibility criteria to be classed as a 'Room'.
Please let me know if I need to send them some more information. 😊
Thanks for getting back so quickly. 😊
Actually, it is not working as intended
If it were, then all these Rooms listings with issues would be appearing in Search results when the guest chooses the "Room" search filter - they aren't.
Originally, before categories were removed April 2025, Hosts who listed Rooms would appear in search results when a guest chose "Room" as a search filter. That was the whole purpose of the Rooms Category. Hosts are now reporting they have requested to be put in the Rooms category and the request justs stays in "pending" status or is "denied" when the listing is clearly a room. No one is "minding the store" as it were any more behind the scenes in Categories since they were removed in April 2025?
Currently, if a guest searches using the Room filter, they will not see Rooms listings appear if the listing was created after April 2025. In order for the system to show these listings properly in search results, they need to be in the Category "Rooms". Since that isn't working correctly they will never appear in a Room search. Hosts try to get put in the Rooms Category, but can't, as Airbnb removed that functionality. It's a chicken-egg thing.
ALL listings created after April 2025 (it seems) are not appearing in Room searches - this is across the platform. Not only are Hosts losing out, this also means that Airbnb is not generating income from the potential service fees on these listings, as they do not appear in search results for "Room" and therefore are not getting booked.
1. Airbnb needs to either remove Rooms as a search filter so everyone is on the same playing field (not likely), or
2. Fix the issue with Room listings created after April 2025 (and going forward) so they will appear in searches when guests select the Room Filter. The only way to do that is to allow these hosts to be placed in the Rooms Category so the previous functionality can then link that to the Room search filter. Hosts cannot seem to get put in the Rooms Category, even when they are indeed a Room Listing and they have requested that Category multiple times and meet all the Airbnb listed criteria for "Room" since April 2025:
@Rebecca Any update on this? Elevate finnaly reviewed my request (after 50 days) and rejected it, so two months later and my listing still dissapears. The only booking I've had there this month was someone from one of my other room who I refered to that room (they did not find it on their own). I'm converting this to a whole house rental soon so it's not as huge of a problem but dissapointing to see a bug that's so costly to hosts and hides good listings from guests go unfixed for this long.
