Last guest left a large black ring - assumed from a hot frying pan - on the oak worktop. On departure it was covered with a chopping board so I didn't initially see it. I messaged to tell him I was starting a claim. He insists that no hot pan was put on the worktop and the ring must've come from the Le Creuset pan which they'd used to put their ice in. Not sure why that might happen. He said when he saw it he assumed it had always been there. I attach a photo of the stain. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

Do you provide mats or anything else to protect the wood work surfaces ? @Lynn60
You should be able to get the stain out fairly easily by sanding it down and then treating with linseed oil or similar .
Why would you claim for such a minor repair?

@Helen3 I don't own a sander unfortunately. I also believe the whole section of worktop will require sanding to prevent any dip appearing where the mark is and to keep it looking even.
Thank you for taking the time to reply.
I agree with @Helen3 , I would search for ways to get the stain out, rather than spend time trying to claim @Lynn60 (it may also have a higher chance of success, given that the guest denies responsibility)
Most importantly, try to find ways to minimise the risk, as it won't be fun if this happens often.
