Registration Number

Hi Airbnb,

I am in the process of adding a listing for the first time. I see successful listings have a "Registration Number" in the "About this place" section. Is this registration number provided to me once the listing is live or do I need to get it registered with the City I reside in. I'd like to make sure I have everything in order and I comply with the rules.

Example of the listing I see with the registration number:

https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/33252612?check_in=2025-04-30&check_out=2025-05-26&location=Sacramento%2...

Thanks in advance for your support.

The City of Sacramento requires short term rental owners to have a Short Term Rental Permit. If you don't have that, you need to get it ASAP. This is the registration number you see appearing on other listings. It is their license number with the City:

It sounds like you need a license to operate an sTR in your area . If you operate without a license you will likely be liable for fines. @Bryan1033

you need to have a look at the STR regulations for your location on your local government website and see if you meet the criteria to apply for a licence.

if you do you can apply for one and if granted you will be given a registration

To list an Airbnb in Sacramento, California, you must register your property as a short-term rental with the city. This requires obtaining a Short-Term Rental Permit and adding the permit number to your Airbnb listing. You will also need to pay the applicable transient occupancy tax.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:
  1. 1. Register as a Short-Term Rental:
If you offer stays of 30 consecutive nights or less, you're considered a short-term rental and must register with the City of Sacramento.

  2. 2. Obtain a Short-Term Rental Permit:
    • Apply for a permit by submitting a completed application and the required fee (initial application is $230, annual renewal is $160).

    • Send the application and payment to: City of Sacramento, Revenue Division, 915 I Street, Room 1201, Sacramento, CA 95814.

    • The permit will be issued after the application is processed, which may take a few weeks.

  3. 3. Add Permit Number to Airbnb:
Once you receive your permit, add the permit number to your Airbnb listing.

  4. 4. Pay Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT):
You'll need to register for and pay the TOT, which is collected from guests for accommodations.
