Hey everyone 👋
I know from reading here on the Community Center that Airbnb hosts have house rules for all sorts of things, but some of you may have some really unique ones that could only apply to your homes.
It might be distinctive to your Airbnb listing, show your personality, keep your home running smoothly, or simply make your space stand out.
If I had a rule, it would be: “Please don’t feed the seagulls!” Living by the coast, the seagulls are hopeless food thieves!
So I’d love to know, what’s your quirky or unique house rule for your Airbnb home, and what inspired it?
I’m looking forward to reading your responses!
One of my little “unique house rules” across my places is:
Pets are welcome, just no pets on the furniture.”
It keeps the space clean and avoids that extra wear and tear. Guests always respect it when it’s said nicely.
I think that's a great rule @Gernide0 and very practical. Do most guests follow this rule?
it could be called a quirky request that we ask our Guest staying in our Beach Cottage “Hidden Gem” which is located one street from the beach with fine white sand.
"If you have been to the beach, can you please wash the sand off your feet before entering the cottage. Reason being it helps keep the floors sand free."
We supply a water dish and a sign on the verandah for Guests to read and use.
Oh @Laurelle3, that's a great rule! I need one of them too I think as my house gets super sandy. We got one of those 'magic rugs' too that absorb mud and everything else, have you seen them? They're very good for muddy shoes (or rugby boots in my house)!
@Rebecca no I haven't seen them and not on my radar to look for. I imagine great for on the for accommodation on a farm or bushland and near national parks and walking tracks.
Buongiorno @Rebecca ,
one of the most important rules in my house in Venice concerns trash, and although it may seem strange, it goes like this:
"Never leave bags outside the front door: there is no pickup and seagulls will rip them open."
Andrea
That's an essential rule @Andrea6232 and it's great to hear that it's not just in the UK that the seagulls are brutal!
That picture you've shared is beautiful. I think, Venice is on my travel list for next year! 😍
We tell our guests not to leave any food or food containers/coolers in their cars or outside on the deck. We are in bear country, and food attracts bears and other wild animals. If you want to know how smart bears are at accessing your vehicle, search for videos on the internet!
Oh my goodness! Is that bear using the door handles? 😱 @Lorna170
Do you have to 'bear proof' your property too?
@Rebecca Yes, the bear is using the door handles. Yes, we have bear proofed our cabin -- double door locks, secure window locks, outdoor motion lights and NO bird feeders! Trash is taken offsite to the municipal dump -- no trash cans (bins) at the road serving bear lunch buffets.
That's amazing - they're so clever... or very hungry! It's truly wild the adaptations you need to make to live in these areas among the wildlife. The biggest animals we have here are a few foxes and maybe a badger or two. Nothing like bears!
Do they come around often?
There are cabinets in the living room, near the television and the sofa, with the doors closed with adhesive tape because I noticed that when open they are at the height of a two-year-old child and could cause problems with their sharp edges, so I leave them closed like this and ask that they not be used. If anyone wants to open them out of curiosity, that's fine, but they should know that I do this because it has prevented accidents with my young guests in the past.
Hi @Giovanni1382 😊,
Thank you for sharing this here!
That’s really thoughtful, I understand your concerns.
Do you usually host many families with kids?
