Help! I name my listing Farmhouse Charm because it is an old house built like you would find on a farm ( or ranch) but it is in town and there are not even farms in the area, this is certainly not or ever has been a farm.  What should ai call this listing so air bb categories will not be misleading.

Hello @Dawn909

AI is being used to put all the millions of Airbnb listings into the new category listings and it does this by picking out key words that we use in our title or information that we have included in our description of our listing, with obvious pitfalls.

Your listing title says "Farmhouse" so that's the reason you now find yourself in this category so maybe changing the title of your property might work but quite see how you wouldn't want to do that and then take it up with CS to see if they can change you into a category that better suits your listing.

Having said this, there are loads of places that are in the "farm" category that look nothing like farms on Airbnb and I'd be interested to know if potential guests are actually using these new categories when looking for somewhere to stay rather than using the old way of just putting  the name of the town and looking at ALL the options out there rather than limiting yourself to just one category.

My listing has been put in the "beach" category although I am in the centre of a large town but as I mention that the beach is a short walk away  I was put in that category much to my surprise!  Their definition is that a listing has be within a 20 minute walk away from the beach.  This is true so just decided to go with it.

Good luck

Joëlle

@Dawn909 I'd like to gain an understanding of the rationale that drove this decision!

Why can we not define the category of our own listing?  Surely we know best?

...and I  must remember not to make any mention of the fact that my property is within walking distance of a historic cave....

they could use the national parks category since it is less than 20 mile from a national park and that is the destination most of my guests have.

the “title is charming farmhouse in a small down setting” so apparently AI does not read the complete sentence.

the other listing is “Tiny bunkhouse, “. That changed from cabin to farm.  No mention of farm anywhere.

i think the two week “curation process” could perhaps include

Feed back from the human who rents the property.

Good luck @Dawn909

My listings are 20 miles inside a National Park and I can get neither a human or the Ai to categorise them as such....

Ai is known for it's short attention sp

@Dawn909 Have you ever considered starting a new career (farming) so it fits better?  I got more 'bright ideas' if you need another. 😋

The funny part of that is my parents both were raised on Farms... then I married a rancher..call a rancher a farmer, “thems fightin words “

I love it.   🙂
