I live near the sea (in the UK so not quite the same) but our beach essentials include: 

A wagon (to carry all the things to the beach as it's a short walk) 

A picnic basket/bag

Beach chairs 

Beach blanket 

Sun shade/tent/parasol

Bats/balls and beach games 😎
