When does a guest become a tenant in SC?

I am having trouble finding out at what point does a guest become protected under landlord tenant laws in SC. Do you know this or have a good resource for me to check out?

This is the law. I believe that it takes a year to become a legal permanent resident but there are a few exceptions.
