"Airbnb Experiences"

Hi All

On my Airbnb home homepage I now have "Welcome to the world of trips".   Following this flashy headline are examples of host who provide a variety of "experiences".  After clicking around a bit I found the field to apply to become a host of experiences.  However, an auto message advised experiences aren't available in my area.

Has anybody managed to become a host of Airbnb experiences?  I would love to host a small scale farming experience including a meal.  Anybody else keen?

Regards

Janice

Unfortunately @Janice1 the Experiences are currently only available in certain areas at this time.  If your city is not offered, you can choose the “Other City” option and you will be notified when this opportunity is available in your area.

I'm not looking to host an experience quite yet (besides I don't think they are available in Portland at this time) but I am curious, for those who are doing this already:

- are experiences seperate entirely from your listings, or do people who book your experience also have to book a stay with you?

- also, if the two are seperate, can people who are already booked to stay with you also book an experience with you later on?

Thanks!  I'm excited for this new way to offer people a good time!

Hi @Janice1 from New Zealand !

I stopped there once on my way to a surfing vacation.

In direct answer to your question, I JUST got off the phone with AirBnB. It is now 8:00pm Pacific Standard Time in San Diego, California. ~ I was told the following from the AirBnB rep : " This { AirBnB Experience } is in its BETA Stage. It will not be released to the general public for several weeks. The listings that you see on there now are only AirBnB prototype listings (which i could tell when just browsing) and are drivied from AirBnB's Marketing division. "

I wish i had more inromation but that is what they handed me.

Cheers & keep in touch if you find out any more information.

Hello @Patricia403,

Great to hear you are interested in this.

Just to clarify, the 'Experiences' were launched at this year's Airbnb Open and are now available to book in the starting 12 locations across the world. More locations are due to be made available over the next year though. Although you can view the experiences on desktop, the way to book an experience is via the Airbnb App.

I hope this helps. 🙂

Hi Lizzie - which locations?

Hey @Patricia403

As with many things BNB this is likely to be US focussed and then capital cities in Europe.

How about getting together with a group of local hosts and then coming up with some experiences that one or more host wants to offer.

You can the cross promote amongs local hosts (and even speak to your local tourism people). You pay a commission to the host that refers (that will be far cheaper than the slice BNB takes).

Everyone wins 🙂

Hello @Helen3,

I'm afraid I don't know the next locations, but I think based on the current 12 available they will be spread across the world. The current cities are: Paris, Los Angeles, Cape Town, Tokyo, Florence, San Francisco, Miami, Seoul, Nairobi, Detroit, Havana, London.

Would you find this useful in your area? 🙂

I literally jumped for joy when Airbnb released "Experiences" because I will be able to advertise my main attraction.  Most of my guests stay to experience my small scale farming/ gardening operation.  There is no way to search on the Airbnb platform for farming or gardens (not for my area anyway).  I have guests who have filtered for pets and stumbled across my listing that way.  Yes, travellers from large cities like to visit the regions to collect eggs, pat the dog, talk to the cat, pick the fruit and generally get connected. The region I live in is not traditionally a tourist area or a main centre.  However, I believe I can provide a fantastic experience.

Moreover, offering a positive experience to people visiting New Zealand requires development.  This is because traditional tourist attractions are simply at capacity.  Also, our main centre’s infrastructure and housing is under pressure.   Reducing overcrowding is needed to avoid negative impacts to tourists and local communities.  One solution implemented in New Zealand, to deal with the above fore mentioned issues, is developing the regions. For example, the local and central authorities have invested in some pretty significant projects to develop Ngaruawahia’s nature reserves and parks.  My last guests utilized the 1500 steps to take in the view from the summit of the Hakarimata Ranges.  The conditions were right for another group of guests to take a night walk in the park and enjoy a fantastic “glow worm” display.

Best Regards

Janice

I would @Lizzie Bristol is a beautiful, historical city set on a network of harbours with an extensive food, art, tourism and environmental scene. Personally I love cooking and was thinking about perhaps offering a 'supper club' using locally sourced food, which would offer guests an opportunity to meet each other and find out more about our lovely city.

Aw I do love the city of Bristol @Helen3, last time I was there I took a little boat, up to a sailing club where everyone was practising capsizing which was funny to see and then back past the SS Great Britain. It was a fantastic couple of hours. 🙂

It is wonderful to hear you are a fan of cooking, it sounds like a great idea to offer a supper club. Do you host many food gatherings at the moment?

I am interested in giving guests a crafting experience, I am a qualified teacher and a craftoholic.

i have the space for up to 4 guests and can offer a variety of crafts , with an option of staying on our listed glamping site.

will experiences be offered in the uk?

@Patricia403

I believe Raglan, New Zealand, has the longest left hand break in the world.  Being a non surfer I'm not exactly sure what that means but I do enjoy watching the surfers and kitsurfers.

I took a look at your listing and you seemed perfectly placed to offer a surfing experience!

Regards
