Airbnb Booking Decline

I have a potential guest trying to book my place next month.  Apparently, they are verified by Airbnb and meet all my qualifications but the customer claims to be receiving the following notice:

CHOOSE ANOTHER PLACE TO STAY
as part of our commitment to you’re safety, certain last minute booking of entire homes are restricted right now
You can still book a hotel for you’re stay

This all looks very suspicious to me because there are grammatical and punctuation errors (you're instead of your) and I can't believe that Airbnb would ever refer the community to a hotel.  Has anyone else seen this?

oh dear that's not going to help things! What are your bookings like Susan? 🙂

@Katy189

....so bad, I don't even want to say it out loud, because if I do, then that might make it true! ;))

It's already been a long tough winter for most small independent Dublin hosts anyway, due to gross over-saturation and the takeover of our market by commercial operators. St Patrick's week is traditionally our very best week of the year, and usually gets us out of a hole after the winter doldrums - but of course, that's not going to happen this year.

I didn't have many future bookings anyway, but the few I did have, are cancelling one by one. Almost every other host I know here is in the same boat, just a steady stream of cancellations, some well into the summer, and calendars being emptied. Everyone looking for full refunds of course,,regardless of cancellation policies - and the vast majority of them getting their full refunds (minus Airbnb service fees, despite the fact that the deluge of cancellations means that many hosts will be left with little to no income for the foreseeable future.

Challenging times, indeed. But there are people going through a lot worse, losing their loved ones to this pandemic, so our problems pale in comparison really.. but are personally, professionally and financially devastating, nonetheless. Those who are determined enough - and/or desperate enough! - will find a way through it, I guess.. somehow!

oh dear it sounds bad - i have only had one cancellation and she said it was because she had been diagnosed with breast cancer, hope I don't get any more as it is thin as it is...I dont really  know many other hosts around here, but one did say they had lots of cancellations. I wonder why they keep saying on the news that it is great news for the tourist industry here in the UK? Guess we will have to tighten our belts to get through this, wasn't expecting this when I gave up my teaching job in September! But yes as you say, much tougher for some.

All the best for the next few months Susan! xx

Yes hope it does pick up - which demographic do they want to catch it, pensioners? Shudder...

Same thing happened to me today. I wonder if it's related to the "party house" situation because the guest's profile says that she's 24 years old. I had another guest (age unknown) book 30 minutes prior with no issues. I noticed that @Justin1035 mentioned that the issue seems to be non-existent for future bookings so now I wonder if the restriction is stricter because March is heavy Spring Break travel.

So I found out that it is in fact this under 25 policy, which I still find odd considering my guest was there for 2 days, I added a day at her request and once she accepted it Air bnb added it with no problem.  When she asked for another night, I got the message.  So it wasn't so much a last minute booking, just an extension of her booking.

Heres a video explaining the under 25 thing but its pretty self explanatory. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swTXxuTuWjI

The whole wanting people to catch it is controversial, as we don't yet know that immunity is created, or how long possible immunity lasts.

This is so infuriating! So many guests in the past week have been getting this error message and unable to book. I have checked and they are all under 25, but totally responsible and just wanting to escape this craziness and be in nature. Of course Airbnb is totally MIA in responding to this or any other request, even though I was assured that I'd get priority customer service being a Plus host.

I have received complaints from guests about this message as well and it's not only one time. It looks like Airbnb is currently blocking "certain" reservations "to prevent COVID-19 spread". I asked the customer service and they told me "about the reservations getting blocked is mainly for the instant book reservations due to government restrictions. It is being blocked by the systems automatically depending on the check-in date, as we have an update till April-14 by the government." It's pretty vague though that I had a guest being blocked today but another guest successfully booked the same dates. Not sure what criteria Airbnb is using to determine it.

This solution worked well for me
