Community Center social online meetup: Friday April 10th

Hello everyone,

I do hope you are all doing ok.

I've been speaking to many of you over the past couple of weeks and several of you seemed keen to attend a social online meetup with fellow CC members–which I think is a terrific idea!

The background to this is that at a London Superhost event in early March, @Paul1255 and I were hatching a grand plan for a community get together. At this time the Coronavirus was only on the horizon in the UK and so we were very hopeful of meeting together and eating lots of tasty food that we had all baked. Alas, this isn't going to happen right now, but it will definitely happen in the future and I think it's good to have nice things to look forward to. But, I still think it would be great during this difficult time to have a bit of a get together and talk about whatever we like (plus expand it, as location won't be an issue). 

The aim is not to talk about Airbnb specifically (so it's slightly different to the Listening Sessions), but to come together and have a chat. 

I know this is short notice, but I thought we could hold  our first meetup this week at Friday April 10th, 9pm UK time*, which I hope will enable some of our friends from around the world to join. If this time is terrible we can have a rethink, so do let me know. 

If this sounds great and you would like to join please let me know below or via DM and feel free to share any topics you think would be nice to discuss or themes. I will then send you the link to the meetup.

Well into my 20s.... I would regularly sleep 15+hrs straight on weekends when I didn't have plans. Also considering I'm a bit of a night owl, that meant I'd go to bed at 2~3am and wake around 6pm-ish, right in time for dinner :-))))

Nowadays I don't sleep as much as or as long as I used to on weekends....a gradual decline as I get older. Now I'm at about 10~12hrs straight and usually up by noon as long as it's more than 6hrs. 

My parents always tease me saying less sleep is all part of becoming an *adult*. Lol~~~

Was not able to connect to the "Meetup". Perhaps this is the place I might find an answer. I'm a host with  a non-refundable policy. All my guests are scheduled for between June and October. I must cancel my 2020 season. Not in the country now and don't know when I'll be back to set up the summer. Also ,I am in an at-risk age and I turn over (clean) both my listings. I want to ask guests to cancel and I will refund them 80%. They will get a "tick" on their profile as having cancelled.

If I have to cancel all my reservations, I loose the entire reservation amount, will be charged $100/per guest costing me thousands,  loose the reservation amount and loose my Super Host status. I would like to "tie this up"  before more time goes by with everyone in limbo. In addition here is a 14 day quarantine for anyone coming to the area where my listings are. I cannot imagine anyone wanting to come visit a national park that they can't visit. MY QUESTION IS would it be ok to offer my guest the opportunity to cancel now and receive 80% of the reservation amount? They would be free to do as they choose to find another lodging opportunity. ANOTHER QUESTION is will Airbnb still charge the guest the service fee? 

I want to be able to communicate with my guests with as much clarity and fairness as possible. Can you shed some light on this for me please?

What a pretty bunch we are.... : )

Some special thanks to Sandra and Cathie for getting up at the crack of dawn to attend in Australia, and to Ann for putting on perfume for the occasion. 

It's great to hear that many others would like to attend our next one, which we all agreed we would like on a weekly basis. So if you missed this one, we will be having one this week.
