Guest no show; no assistance from support

Should I cancel on my guest?

A guest has booked my guest house for 3 months and he was supposed to check in yesterday. He didn't show up. I tried multiple times to get a response from the guest but it was in vain. I once did manage to speak to him, but this was after sending him multiple messages and practically begging him for a response. I've been irritated by his lack of communication from the start but I had let it go, until now when he's a no show.

I reached out to support but they never respond.

What can I do? Should I cancel this reservation? Or keep waiting to see if the guest will arrive?

@Shiko32 if you cancel then you will be fined and your calendar will be blocked. You should call or message Airbnb and explain the situation. Even if you persuade them for a free cancellation you will be unlikely to re let your space at such short notice.

@Mike-And-Jane0 Thanks for your reply. The calendar is already blocked for the next 3 months either way because it shows as if the guest checked in yesterday. If I cancel and accept the fine, do you know if this will affect my rating?

I messaged Airbnb support over a week ago asking for advice on an unresponsive guest, then again when the guest was a no show... but as always support never responds past the conversation with the bot.

@Shiko32 My point is that if YOU cancel then your calendar will remain blocked for 3 months. At present you are, theoretically, being paid for the current stay. So there is no way you should just cancel without Airbnb's help.

When you do get hold of Airbnb make sure they are not going to fine you or block the calendar for cancelling.

Airbnb support is poor at present. You can try calling them - the numbers are in the contact Airbnb post at the top of the Help section of the community centre.

Good luck.

Thanks for your insight, I appreciate it. I had decided to give the guest a few more hours to see whether he would communicate or show up today, but no such luck. I'll definitely call support before cancelling.

The problem with a guest that doesn’t show up is they can still leave you a review. Airbnb should not allow that as they didn’t stay, so how much can they know about you or the property? But Airbnb says they allow them to review, UNBELIEVABLE. So how does Airbnb think a no show show guest will review a host especially when they want a refund and they don’t get it? Ya bad! This practice is not fair.
