I'm a Superhost in Dallas and have assumed that Airbnb is collecting and remitting the HOT on my cottage. We have recently received notification from the city that all STR hosts will have to report their monthly earnings and pay a HOT directly to the city. This is redundant, and I don't know how to confirm that Airbnb is actually providing the tax service that they tell us they are handling. Any thoughts or help from any other Dallas, TX hosts?????
Teresa
Did you find out about the City Hot through a letter from the city to register your STR with dallas.munirevs.com? Did you go through this process and is this website where you remit your city HOT? Do you mind sharing who at the city you talked to? And what are the fines for past HOT not paid?

I’ve also received my first letter and have yet to go through the process. Whomever you spoke with at the city seemed very helpful. I’d also like to speak with them and know about past fines. All this has me vexed.
I spoke with Gerry Lington and Mesfin Abebe both at the City of Dallas Controllers Office
They told me that they searched the Airbnb site and looked for Superhosts to get the info about who was hosting. Gerry told me that the City of Dallas has been unable to come to an agreement with Airbnb to collect the taxes and that the city has had a hotel tax since the 1960's.
sorry so late but this went to my spam and I am just now seeing all the thread. I spoke to Gerry Lington and Mesfin Abebe at the City Controllers Office. Yes, they set me up thru MUNIrevs and I'm guessing you have seen the fees and fines by now
I too just got a letter from Dallas. So glad that Airbnb is helping its hosts. I fully understand it is my responsibility to know the law but apparently I am not the only one assuming AirBnB had the taxes under control. AirBnB remits state taxes because it knows my house is in Texas. One would assume they know its in Dallas too since that is the address. A little note from the company would have been appreciated " Hey Dallas host- you know there is a 7% tax that we don't collect from the guest, don't forget" Typical corporate.
@Brian151 Airbnb didn't help. I paid the tax and penalty to Dallas and everything is fine- I think.
Denise, I am getting the same thing. Do they audit everything? Dallas even told me when I first opened up my AirBnB. I thought for sure Airbnb was collecting the money, but I guess not.
This could be a very large check I am going to have to cut Dallas. I feel screwed over by Airbnb on this.
I just got off the phone with Airbnb, who said that "they will call me back"
I would like to talk off line with Dallas Airbnb hosts.
@Denise253 @Teresa656 @Rodderick0 would you all like to get together in person to talk about this?
There are many offline conversations we need to have
For sure: sent me an email!

I'm in Dallas as well. I received a "second notice" a few days ago. Never saw the first notice. AirBnb has been charging my guests 7%. I wonder how we can confirm they are paying it out.
How much are the fines?
10% interest rate from datep of past due.
In super upset right now. I would like to get people together offline.
If AirBnB is collecting taxes, shouldn't they of made sure we knew the taxes for our city?
This is a pretty costly endeavor. How much responsibility does AirBnB hold?
I am thinking class action against AirBnB?
Are we able to exchange contact info here, or does Abnb block such info?
