Joe Gebbia joins DOGE

Hi everyone,

Is anyone else concerned that Joe Gebbia has joined DOGE?

Does he still earn income from Airbnb as a board member? This makes me very sad as I can't support a guy like that.  I really like the service airbnb provides and the ease of use for a host.

Anyone else feel the same way?

Joanna

As a host, shall we protest to get him out?

Yes.  I wrote emails to a variety of people at Airbnb.  The more people do it, the more we can hope for a change.  I am even going to post on my personal social media for airbnb users to do so.  If we flood them, maybe he'll get the hint he's not welcome with his stupid views.

Just unlisted my 5-star guest favorite property today, and emailed the CEO. It's one action I can take to stand against dehumanization. I've cross-listed on Vrbo and will be taking my business fully over there until Airbnb releases a statement that Gebbia is off the board.

We've been hosting our guest cabin in the mountains of Northern New Mexico on Airbnb for two years now and have been Superhosts from the start. We've marveled at and been thankful for the amount of bookings we've had (and surprised as well) and if we didn't block out a few nights here and there we'd be booked solid from spring to fall.

We believe a large part our success is due to placement on our listing (at Airbnb's recommendation when creating your listing and copied from their own text) the statement...

"Our home is a safe place for folks from all minority and marginalized groups

We welcome guests of all races, faiths, genders, and sexual orientations. Our home is your home.'

To see Gebbia strongly and vocally support Elon Musk, DOGE, and be an outspoken advocate of RFK, Jr. (my wife and I are healthcare professionals so this tidbit disgusts us even more) runs counter to everything that statement from Airbnb and us. I can't look my guests in the eye if we continue with Airbnb, particularly as there seems to be no concerns from the company at all regarding this.

We're removing our listing in the next 24 hours.

We just cancelled our existing AirBNB reservations and moved to VRBO. After 13 years, we're done with AirBNB.

I do think govt is too large, but this DOGE "purge" is un-democratic and authoritarian. This is not an audit. There are no auditors. No budget specialists. No forensic accountants. Just a handful of teen-age coders causing unreasonable chaos.

This is how bullies and thugs and mobsters do things. This is not the work of empathetic, thoughtful human beings.

Yes. I agree. Be careful moving as you will lose those already booked. I can't move until after the end of July.

Unfortunately, Airbnb is the easiest platform and I believe it is the only one that offers insurance. I have looked at many and used VRBO previously.

I will probably go with Evolve. They charge the host more, but they do the marketing and put it on all of the platforms.

I would really like to stay with Airbnb, but also cannot support that nonsense. I am also very rural and a heavy Amazon user since 1997. I will be canceling all that as well. And I see some other companies I use - like Paypal, Robinhood, Uline, Coca-Cola,  Verizon, Comcast  . . .

I just read this - "Airbnb provided $100,000 in coupons to the inaugural committee to assist with accommodations in Washington, D.C. during the inauguration, as we did for both the Republican National Convention and Democratic National Convention over the summer of 2024," reported by Newsweek.

And Joe Gebbia only owns 8% of the stock now.

100 percent! I've seen at least a dozen different boycott Airbnb posts on social media this week. What can we do to get them to cut ties with this dude?

With Joe as a co founder, Airbnb becomes really the only hosting platform that is so active in supporting diversity and inclusion.

So now you want to harm Airbnb, with hate and cancel culture?

Because a former founder, who no longer works there, is working for DOGE.

You realise he is now working on user interface design to streamline the USA government processes. He is not personally working on cancelling dei initiatives or whatever you are worried about  He is working to improve the user interfaces government uses, and which is what he did well at in Airbnb.

If you hate on Airbnb, will you switch to platforms that (unlike Airbnb) do not support diversity and inclusion at all as actively?

Maybe put down your pitchfork and support Airbnb. They are not the problem. And nor is Joe. Just because he works for the USA government, doesn't mean he is personally supportive or implementing changes that you do not like.

Is it ok if he improves the user interface of Government systems? Or should he not do this because the current president policy may not be to your liking?

I think it's too easy to call this hate and cancel culture and if we're using popular terminology, that is gaslighting. This isn't hate and cancel culture. This is a conversation amongst concerned people who are having to consider how we make our living. Trump has threatened to annex the country I am a citizen of - to destroy our economy. Joe signed on to work for his agenda. What are we supposed to do except to carefully consider how we participate as tax paying citizens?

I plan to take action to move to VRBO. I sent a message that wraps up how I feel (message below) This is not just about DEI. This is about the administration, and especially DOGE manufacturing a crisis in order to justify cuts to "bureaucracy" so they can cut taxes for the rich. They do not plan to spend less. Take a look at the budget. It's proof. It's also a long game in white dominance (that's a whole other topic).

What's devastating about the effort the Co founder is justifying through participation, is the dehumanizing of "bureaucracy". These are real people, living and working and serving their country. This could have been done differently if they "cared" about the people, and they may have saved a couple billion dollars (fractions but still saving) on some controversial DEI efforts. But they didn't. Real working people are losing their jobs and DOGE doesn't care. They want them to feel terrorized. I'm starting my plan to transition my property to make a statement. If the American people do not clearly communicate that they actually voted for this dude to do the things he knows he can't do (empty promises)... he will keep going.

If you're interested in my message to AirBNB:

Just sent this comment to airbnb
This is officially a first complaint. I feel sick that Joe Gebbia would work alongside the Elon Musk as he wreaks havoc on tax paying, we'll intentioned Americans across the country who rely on income and systems that have been in place for decades or more under the blanket guise of, "DEI". People like him, and obviously you, who could solve the nation's debt, "crisis" overnight by paying your fair share of your, "hard earned" wealth built on the backs of those of us who just didn't quite have the dumb luck you call boot straps to reach your, "american dream". This experiment is not X. This experiment is not just one business that can fail, and have other safety nets (such as the government) pick up the pieces after you downsize to increase your piece of the wealth pie. I can't wait to pull my property from your site. I hope this gets to you. I hope you pad this onto the dumb asses in the white house, who've made the US the laughing stock of the world.
