Joe Gebbia joins DOGE

Hi everyone,

Is anyone else concerned that Joe Gebbia has joined DOGE?

Does he still earn income from Airbnb as a board member? This makes me very sad as I can't support a guy like that.  I really like the service airbnb provides and the ease of use for a host.

Anyone else feel the same way?

I wrote to Airbnb and they sent some generated AI response and then referred me to this community page! I am going to fulfill my current bookings with Airbnb and then cancel and go with another agency. I truly can not support any company that aligns with Trump and Musk.

Airbnb leads diversity and inclusion. It did so while Joe was a co founder. Now he has left in 2022 and no longer works there.

But you want to hate on Airbnb because of what a former founder is doing now?

Except he isn't doing what you think. He's working on user interface design, which he does well. Like it's why Airbnb interface is slick. Imagine if the USA government user interface was as easy for workers as Airbnb.

He's not personally responsible for Trumps policy anymore than any USA government worker.

But if you switch platforms, I'm guessing you will switch to BookingCom or VRBO - both have worse user interface, and neither are even close to being as active in DEI, if that is what you see as important.

Hating on and trying to cancel culture Airbnb over Dei makes zero sense. Well, unless you want to personally harm the one company leading in this area... A company Joe co founded and had a lot of influence in before he left.

I do not understand your views, and if you say you want to cancel Airbnb over Dei issues, I think the phrase 'Own goal' comes to mind!

Can I encourage you to support Airbnb, due to all the nonsense cancel culture. You realise they are not at all involved in Trump policy, and are the market leader in Dei?

Brian Chesky is throwing us hosts under the bus. He should lead the way in reassuring the public that he upholds the D.E.I. principles and is not backing the current administration’s federal worker cut (unemployment leads to less travelers, hosts associated with national parks will loose clients, tarrffs increase costs of goods adding to economic downturn and unpopular USA leads to less international travel).

I’m not sure the Gebbia was responsible for making the Airbnb platform so user friendly: I would credit SalesForce.

I got some feedback saying "we are only  here to sort out your problems, not enter into politics". They didn't even confirm the Gebbia is working with Musk.

 Please remove Joe Gebbia from his board position at airb&b org and pressure him to step down from DOGE or divest himself of his 7% interest in Airbnb. Your continued silence on this matter is unacceptable from a leader. I was about to list as a host and have enjoyed being a traveler but will support alternative platforms even if it costs me massively personally to do so. Gebbia’s support for Musk’s efforts is 100% unacceptable morally. To allow him to continue to chair the board for airb&b org sends a clear message of support for his actions. I understand not wishing to alienate segments of the population. How is that choice working out for Tesla stock?

I'd rather him step down from Airbnb.  He clearly doesn't have the value set that airbnb should be embracing.

I am in agreement with others hosts and travelers. I cannot align with a company that is silent regarding their moral obligation to their customers to have board members that support a coup taking over the US. Please remove him ASAP!
